Palm Pre is sold brand new on ebay for 300$-350$. Can you explain how are they making profit? what's the catch?
The Pre costs 200$ plus a monthly payment for a few years... It's got to add up to more than 350$...
They probably buy the device for $ 200 with contract, unlock it and sell it on ebay. They then make $ 150 of profit when they don't pay up the monthly fees (usually by providing fake personal info to sprint etc.). Its kind of a grey area, but I mostly consider them "stolen".
And I doubt that Sprint would connect it. The only unlocked phones that you can run without major problems, are GSM to use on T-Mobile or AT&T in the US, or most GSM carriers around the world. But the GSM version is not yet available.
It sounds strange... they somehow avoid paying the monthly fees but they don't run away to Mexico, they stay in the USA and sell phones off of ebay and allow the customers to come and collect those phones.... even an idiot could track them...
It makes more sense to me that they are really stolen.
By the way, what does "Clean ESN" means?

Clean ESN is IMHO the proof that the device is fooked up
