I am operating a Sony SJ 20 (OS 4.1) and want to purchase and use a TE. Will the be any conflicts caused by installing the TE with the new operating system (OS 5.0) with theSony (OS 4.1)? I would like to keep both the SJ 20 and the TE separate. My wife confiscated the Sony so hopefully I can add the TE on the same PC for me. If you can do this is there any special items to do when installing the TE and hotsyncing both units
roblow, that's a good question ... I tried to do this myself between my Palm III and the T|E. I couldn't figure it out, unfortunately, or at least felt comfortable that it was working flawlessly. The part that's sketchy is separating OS4.1 from OS5 and avoiding conflicts. I TRIED doing this by setting up separate users on Windows XP (login for me, and login for my wife). I thought this would do the trick in separating the two, but there were some weird things that happened even though it SEEMED to install okay. Not exactly sure if I'm helping you here, but maybe you'll have better luck than I if you create separate login accounts under XP Home or Professional (of course, assuming you have this
I use the Palm desktop from PalmOne and has been able to sync a SJ33, a NX80V, and a T3 before. What I do is create a backup of my old username(s) in another folder (just in case something wrong happens on installation). Install the Palm version of the desktop. Hotsync each handheld, if your new desktop doesn't recognize your older Sony handheld (USB device not recognized), you might want to fish out the Sony USB drivers off your older Sony CD. Otherwise, you are done. No problem handling both OS 4 and 5 on the same desktop since each backup goes to a separate folder. As far as Palm Desktop is concerned, each unit is separate, and except for some applications that comes with Windows Installers and insists on installing on all available users, there's no interconnection between the two.
