| CD-RW's? Buy the cheapest, or does anyone recommend a specific brand?

| Depends on what you're going to do with them. If you can risk one (or more) failing, then cheaper might be fine. But if this is your one backup copy of photos of your kid... might not want to chance it.
My rule with CDRs and CDRWs is: get a load of free ones (CDRs are easy to find for free) for doing tests and for non-critical stuff (like a mix CD). Then, for the important stuff, buy a brand I've heard of. Some big companies sell junk, but in general, the well known companies produce acceptable stuff. |

| TDK has never sold me a coaster before, but just recently I bought a 5-pack of Memorex and they were all bad. Your mileage may vary.

| I prefer the MoserBaer Cds - never used RW but the R actually work great - I always buy them in bulk so its a lot cheaper ... .. I recently bought a pack of SONY CD-R - I wont be buying them ever - they had problems - everytime I tried to write them, I got a power caliburation error (I was using Nero) ... even though my CD-drive does have its issues, I never had a problem with MoserBaer ... I bought an external CD RW drive (ASUS) ... even that has problems with a SONY ... I really dont recomend that

| Ritek is a very good, but lesser known brand. Check out http://www.meritline.com
Ordered $100's from them with no problems

| When I was on tour I needed to burn some CD-Rs frequently for my show and when I started to run out we were in the middle of nowhere and Staples was the only place we could get them. I bought some Staples brand CDs, which isn't exactly a name I think of for quality audio, and sure enough the first time I used one we popped it in the drive at the sound board and it wouldn't read it, so we had to wait while I burned another copy on a different brand of disc (Memorex was what I mostly used, IIRC). I don't know how crappy the Staples discs really were, but that first experience taught me a lesson to get good quality discs for things that need to always work right the first time. |
