In 1996 Reader's Digest a magazine not noted as a tech magazine made Virginia Tech known as one of the most connected school. Unfortunately the media has descended upon this school's tragedy and has made some mistakes. One person living there was misidentified as the shooter. This is due to news agencies seeking to scoop the major news agencies. The police and other investigating agencies are taking it slow and trying to get it right.
Was e-mail the way to inform all the citizens? If you carried a wi-fi connected device, maybe. The school was hesitant to issue an e-mail earlier and it is another what if scenario.
On Slash dot the news is an amazing two pages long!! Wire news was used to retract the false accusation of the wrong person. Is this the future that we are more connected? I think we still need to work on connecting ourselves....
