Wow, technology has gotten better...

I just went from my year old LG PM-325 to the Samsung A900 (aka Blade), and I was amazed how much better technology has gotten over a year. Blade is thinner, has better screen, plays music, and I was able to set my favorite songs as my ring-tones for free. This thing is great. I can't wait to see what will come next year

The sound quality is surprisingly good, it just doesn't have the normal audio jack...

My Nokia N70, since it's unlocked, allows me to do anything I want with it, so set any sound file as my ringtone or so on. I transfer videos and other files via BT back and forth between my Mac. .It works great. It also uses a propietory sound connector, which they sell an adapater, but sounds pretty good for a phone. It even has a FM tuner, which really isn't that useful. I'll stick with my iPod for music though, since 1Gig isn't enough to hold my collection and the thumb-pad control sucks compared the wheel. Plus the interface, which is pretty good, isn't nearly as nice as the iPods.

But just to take a blow at the MS's Zune, at least my phone can play ucompressed music and transfer audio, video, or anything I want to any other BT device, without the file being infected by DRM. Oh, and if I turn my phone sideways, I can watch videos sideways

Did your phone come with Flash Lite 2.x?

Blah.

No, it doesn't have Flash...
I make my ringtones by making a 30 second clip in Sound Studio and converting it to m4a in Quicktime pro and then sending it to my phone.

Whatever works. They'll probably offer Flash for it soon. Tis the only reason I bougth my phone. I had to buy a developer version of Flash Lite 2.x to get it.

I'm using a midi file from Monkey Island 2 for my ringtone. I can assign several different rings for different areas. My phone even has video calling, but I don't live Europe. Blah.

My N80 had all of that stuff, except the screen had 4 times as many pixels as the N70... and it was a smaller area. That made for some tiny viewing.

My 700p is very impressive, but I wish it was smaller.

And the N80 also had 3rd Edition of the Symbian OS, which added features, but in-turn overcomplicated things like making a phone call.

I noted this before, but the N80 does not run Flash Lite 2.x and it sill doesn't. This was one of my biggest resaons for buying a N70, since I need it for development. I recall mentioning this to you when I first got my N70, after you posted that you wanted a N80. I didn't know you actually got one though. My screen size is fine, especially when I consider that all of the US phones that are finally getting FL 2 through BREW are the same rez.

http://www.adobe.com/products/flash...evice_profiles/

BT 1.2, no Flash Lite 2.x support, a stagnent OS, and Palm's support for Windows Mobile are just a few reasons why I didn't go with the Treo. And believe, me I really wanted one. I thought the 700p would be the one for me, but It was only a disappointment from my perspective. Even the newer Treos like the 750 are still stuck with outdated tech that should have been updated over 3 years ago. I also wanted a Phone first and the Treo doesn't fit that build. BT 2.x is important to me, because it's much better for headsets, since it offers a higher data transfer rate, hence better sound quality. It's also more reliable. I have the Nokia BH-900 and it works flawlessly on my N70. On the Treo, it has disconnect and volume issues from what I had read earlier this year. I found that by chance while looking for headsets and user feedback.

Blah, anyway, with Apple coming into the phone arena, I'll be buying their phone next. PALM and MS can fight over their 5% market share, which is kind of mute since PALM has pretty much given up. I doubt Apple will catch up with Symbian OS, but I have confidence their phone will do for smart-phones what the iPod has done for DAPs.
