Found a nifty app for my G18, which has no hardware dial pad: TapDial.
Allows you to create shortcuts in your launcher for your most important contacts. just tap on any of them for a quick dial. Details
Here is a picture of the G18 in case you're not familiar with the smallest Palm phone ever built!
