Simple video on the CLIE 2

Why is everyone having such problems with this. It is real simple. All I do is pic (from my harddrives) which file I would like to watch on the CLIE. Then, if it is not allready in MPG format, if it is go right to image converter, I use a program called WINMPGVIDEO CONVERTER. It is great...allowing you to convert all types of video to all types with only a source and a destination click. Basically I can put anything in the world into the clie by making it an MPG video. AVI, DIVX, XVID...etc...will not work in image converter, however if you convert them to mpg they will play great. In long mode I can get over 2 and a half hours of video onto a 128m stick. On my 1g stick I get 4 full lenth feature films in HIGH QUALITY format. In LONG MODE.......well thats a lot of video. If I rip a DVD, then it is all still the same. You choose how to rip it (divx is my personal favourite) then convert it to mpg then to image converter and BAM, youre done. Good Luck

Sound great, but for the newbies like me can you provide links to where we get the various bits of software, including which you use to view the movies with.

See these links for software to convert various formats to mpg which clie video converter can handle.

These are fairly inexpensive shareware programs:

http://www.winmpg.com/

http://www.tmpgenc.net/e_main.html

a little more costly, but what I use:

winmpg is a wonderful piece of software
it can convert xvids into divx because IC doesn't like xvids
and virtual dub has trouble reading some of my xvid movies

then combine the audio and video outputs from winmpg into virtual dub
direct recompress
its all done!

Sorry to appear dumb, but I have not had the processor to go down this route.

So - I have winmpg to convert to mpg
then I use image converter (I know where to get that)

Then what do I watch it on. I can get Kimona but cannot find Movie Player and it is not clear which file types they support.

Many thanks for your assistance so far

Giles

I'm sorry, but the Winmpg > Mpg > Image Converter > Clie Movie Player process we've been talking about assumes you can run Sony's Movie Player software on your Clie to playback the movies.

But, I don't think Movie Player works on the TJ35 - only on the NX, NZ, and UX series Clies.

For the TJ35 you have to use programs like Kinoma and Teal Movie to playback movies. You'll also have to use the encoders bundled with the programs to prepare your AVI, Divx, Mpg, etc. files for use on the Clie.

With the TJ35, Sony's Image Converter is only for converting still images for viewing with Clie Viewer.

I was starting to think this.

According to the Image converters Help:

Compatible file formats
You can convert image files recorded in the following formats to the formats compatible with your CLIÉ handheld.
Movie images: AVI, MPEG, and QuickTime-format movie files are converted into Movie Player-format files.

Still images: BMP, JPEG, GIF, PNG, TIFF, and PGP-format still image files are converted into JPEG (DCF)-format files.

So now I just need to find a way of viewing them on the TJ35. But of a drag this.

I am downloading a Kimona clip so I can show off at work, but I believe I have more options if I can find a player.

Giles
ps. there is a link to an IC download which does movies amongst these posts.

Thanks for your help so far!!

Here's a shameless plug. Over at www.clieflics.com we have a growing selection flics that you can view on your Clie...unfortunately it is content that will require an NX, TH, or the like since they are in MQV format.

I am hoping to have some video tutorials soon on the conversion process to help out those who still find this a mystical process...and at times it can be if you have a flic that just doesn't want to convert.

Hope to see you there!
