| The treo is a phone and a PDA in one device. If you have a cellular carrier, check with them before purchasing anything (and generally it's a good idea to purchase the treo from them to make sure it works).
I can't speak for the Tungsten E specifically, but it should be a good device (look around on these forums for any issues that others might have with it). Generally, the differences between the T|E and T3 are matters of taste and performance. The T3 has more memory (which you'll only use if you buy/install lots of third party apps and games), a faster processor (which is only really factor if you get into video playback and intensive games), and a virtual graffiti area (can be minimized to give you 320x480 worth of screen space). Plus, the newly introduced wi-fi card from Palm won't work on the T|E. If you're just starting out and only need a basic PDA, then the T|E should be fine. You might also want to look at the Zire 72, which is kind of in the middle. I chose the T3 because of the extra RAM and the virtual graffiti area (which I got used to with my NX's). Both have the same PIM apps, AFAIK. You won't lose any PIM data by having a T|E rather than a T3. It's just a matter of preference. Look through the forums here, and you'll probably get an idea of why people like the device they have (or why they don't like the device they have), and based on their grievances, you can make an informed decision based on what you expect out of a PDA and if it's worth the extra money for certain features.
