So I Finally Got A Bluetooth Phone . . . .

Who wants to walk me through the steps (or find the proper thread) on how i go about getting on the internet on either my Clie NZ90 or my Palm T3 PDAs.

I have a Sony-Ericsson T610 on T-Mobile. I will not be using the GPRS thing that T-mobile charges for.

My intention is to use my phone as a modem, and it will be dialing a dial-up isp number while connecting to my PDA via bluetooth.

Thanks in advance.

Are you sure you have internet/data enabled on your phone? I'm not sure if you can do regular dial-up over regular TMobile, they may have to enable data for you to use your dial-up.

If that is done, then you should probably first try the Sony Mobile Connection Wizard software. You can download it from the Sony Support site if you don't already have it.

Then holler back-

already got the mobile connection wizard but it appears to be a setup in the event of me having t-mobile data service. i remember reading back in the Cliesource days that the phone could call up ISPs or something and being "free" although it would just tick away at your minutes. But it was a t-mobile ISP number, and since it's free t-mobile to t-mobile number, i believe the claim was that it was completely free internet usage.

You are on T-mobile... you should have FREE WAP on your phone / GPRS tethering (some ports blocked) for free...

Hmm...It should be easy once you have the right Connection and Wireless service set up on your CLIE. Did you search for T-Mobile bluetooth or anything like that?

i have no problem connecting my PDAs with my cell phone. i would prefer to use my T3 (landscape =D) for net surfing since i've been carrying that around daily instead of my BrickNZ90.

Trying the same in Canada...

I've been trying to do the same (dial up ISP) with my T68i using Rogers/AT&T and haven't has any luck. I can get the phone to dial, but for some reason the connection is dropped almost instantaneously as the phone starts to redial while my NZ90 is still "connecting". It certainly works with GPRS, however the prices in Canada are a bit much for a casual user who's happy to devote a few minutes of airtime that have been paid for anyway.

I'm thinking that the problem is in my login script somewhere, as the phone is not "waiting" for the clie to connect - I'm not sure how to change this

Cheers,

MM

Hi PBM808

Firstly turn on Bluetooth (phone and NZ) and pair the NZ with the t610 entering a code of your choice when prompted.

Then on your NZ90 under preferences go to Connections and click on the new button,
In the name field I suggest you call the connection T610.
In the connect to field select MODEM.
In the Via field select BLUETOOTH
In the device field select T610 (or whatever you have called your NZ/T610 Bluetooth pairing)
Dialing = TouchTone
Volume = whatever suits
Click on details and select the speeed you like
Flow Control = Automatic
Init String = leave blank

Next you need to setup a Network connection on the NZ which holds the dial-up info for your ISP. So on the NZ select Preferences, Network and under Service choose an exisitng connection if that fits your dial up (AT&T, Compuserve etc) or choose UNTITLED

Rename Untitled to something reflecting your ISP
In User Name you need to enter your Log in account details given to you by your ISP

Password = your supplied password from your ISP
Connection = T610 (or whatever you have called your NZ/T610 Bluetooth pairing)
Phone = dial-up number for your ISP
Then click on details and select PPP in the Connection type
Idle time out = never
Query DNS = Yes (or tick actually)
IP address tick for Automatic
Click on script and select END

That should be it and you can test the connection from Preferences/Netwrok by clicking on connect, but make sure Bluetooth is switched on for your NZ and T610.

The only thing you need to check with your ISP is that thay still accept slow connections as the modem part of your phone will probably be 9600 baud. Some ISP's have a different dial-up number for a slow connections.

Good luck

So you can or cannot tether? And why use dial up (CSD/minutes) vs GPRS (should be a faster connection)?

I'm using a Tmobile T610 to connect my Zire 72 to the internet via dialup ISP. Here's what I did, if my memory serves me (and should be the same as with your T|3):

In Preferences\Bluetooth, click "Setup Devices." (If you haven't yet, make sure your Cell Phone is listed as a trusted device, which it sounds like you've done already.)

From here, click "Phone Setup" then "Dial Up to ISP." Click "next",

tell it you do not have a high-speed data service, click "next"

It will tell you that you need to enter the settings provided by your ISP, click "next"

Enter the number you're dialing up to, your username, password, and click "next"

It should tell you that you've successfully set up your dialup account, click "done"

You will be back in your Bluetooth screen. Under the "Network Service" dropdown, make sure "Dial-up to ISP" is selected and Bluetooth is on (and also your Cell Phone's Bluetooth is on) and click "connect." Your T|3 will pop up a dialogue box saying it's connecting, and when it's finished it will say you are connected.

Welcome to mobile internet

To answer this part, you will be billed for minutes used if you dial-up to an ISP using a BT phone and Tmobile

I am using the free GPRS provided my T-Mobile on my T610 and my T3. No dialup here. And it doesn't count against my minutes. There's no need to use dialup at all. All of the T-Mobile accounts have free GPRS. You just have to make sure that you have data enabled on your account in order for it to work. (I actually had the $19.99 unlimited plan and turned it off in favor of the free service.) You cannot browse secure sites, however.

I don't know if the screens are the same but here is what I have:

1. Under Connection
- Name - I have T610
- Connect to - Phone
- Via - Bluetooth
- Device - T610
- Model - Sone-E T610
Under details:
- Speed - 57,600 bps
- Init String - &FV1E0X1

2. Under Network
- Service - I named mine Free GPRS
- User name - blank
- Password - blank
- Connection - T610
- Phone - *99***1#
Under details:
Connection type - PPP
Idle timeout - 1 Minute
Query DNS - checked
IP address - checked automatic

Hope that helps!

Because Minutes are free if i use internet at night or on weekends when i'm usually out. as for GPRS, i think tmobile has a plan that charges like $4.99 a month for that.
