#1 | | Guest | Do I really need an NX70? I am looking for my very first PDA! The Sony Clie SJ30's seem like they would be good enough.
The NX70's are spendy, but I'd be willing to get it if it would really be useful in my practice.
Any opinions? | |

| depends on what's important to you.
i have a nr70 and love the large screen. the nx screen is better in that the full screen mode can be utilized more. |

| I just bought a T665, does everything I need and some and is now discounted to $299.99. But hurry if you want one as they are being replaced by a newer model in Feb. It has twice the speed of the sj30, just as good a screen, and thinner. Just my opinion.

| I upgraded to the NX becasue I wanted to have the extra real estate (collapsible virtual graffitti area) and the possibility of improved screen resolution, as well - but in all honesty, the images look only a little better than other clies. I had a really old PDA before that took forever to load up programs like Pedsdrugs and perform some calculations. The 200mhz ARM processor seems to do this alot better that my previous PDA. The bottom line: Did I really need all that - no.
But I definitely wanted it... and I feel alot happier with it. |

| One of my most important points is that my T665 fits in my front pocket well. I work in an ICU and carry lots of "stuff" in my scrubbs including my pda with all its important info to help me through the shift. I don't even know its there. The NR and NX series seems a little too big to do that.

| I have an NX60 in a metallic innopocket case. You are right. It will fit, and leave you some space for a few pens, but that's about it. I should tell you that the two times that my prior PDAs' screen was cracked was actually while I was carrying the thing in my front scrub pocket and I tried bending down (duh) - it fell out and smashed itself against the ground.

| Thats why I have a Pocket Armour case for mine. It has fallen only a couple of times with no damage - well worth the price!

| Go for the NX60 - the camera on the NX60 is not great - good for cuteness, but that's about it. If you want a better camera go for the new NZ, but for a camera, I still like the standalone sony digital camera's and they are great and rugged |

| I upgraded to the NX70V because I found I was using the camera alot and the resolution stank on the NR70V. I am very happy with the NX70V. Not only is it very fast (esp. when broswing large books), but the camera's resolution is just good enough to put images in a PowerPoint presentation. Also I've taken video of a CT-scan while scrolling through it - great for a quick viewing on rounds - again the resolution is just good enough.
Regarding the size - I'm using the same NutShell case (from New Zealand) as I did with the NR - it's got a strong metal clip perfect for scrubs. Everyone who dosen't have one complains that its so big, but I haven't noticed at all. Fits perfectly in the palm of your hand. And the bigger screen is SO worth it.
If you are only going to use your palm for looking up drugs and phone numbers get a smaller / cheaper one. Careful about putting it in your front pocket though, they fall-out alot $$.
Also try seeing if your collegeues have a used one for sale - save money and get one that's already loaded with medical applications!
Good Luck.

| Hey YellowRose,
I am now registered, and I changed my name to "SammyCat"!!!
I got the SJ30. since it's my first PDA, I figured I should how much I really use the thing before getting soemthing as elaborate and expensive as the NX70.
I think having a color screen is very very helpful, because it si much easier and pleasant to read.
I also got a memory card, although I am not using much space on it at present. I found that a big program like Pepid works a hell of a lot slower on the memory card, so I keep it on the handheld drive.
I am using my PDA alot! It has been so helpful to me. I'll wait a few years before I I get anything new |

| Terrific! I really like the form factor of the SJ series. You'll never go wrong with a color $ony PDA, either. I just wonder if you'll make it 'years' before getting another. I haven't yet! LOL!

| I'm glad you're happy with the SJ30. I guess it all depends on what you intend to do with the Clie.
As for me, I've found the NX70V indespensible. X rays translate beautifully with the still camera. Physical findings are also quickly documented for further reference. The video camera is wonderful! I caught an episode in a kid the other day, suspicious for seizure activity, and wirelessly emailed it straight to the local neurologist. He called the kid right in for an appointment the same day.
As they say, a picture is worth a thousand words... especially when the camera is right on your hip |
