| Need help troubleshooting a never synced before T|T3 to desktop I'm trying to get back on my feet with my T|T3....
I'm using:
Windows XP w/SP3
Palm Desktop 4.1.4
Tungsten T|T3
pOS 5.2.1
I recently bought a newer T|T3 to replace the one I currently have. There's been some software/db corruption in my old unit that AFAIK, it's rendered it useless without hardresetting it. My backup via Tealbackup hasn't done any good. So I have two T3s. Both are factory fresh setting. At this point, I'm going to start almost from scratch. The only thing I'll retain are my PIM data (datebook, addressbook, Memos, Tasks, Voice Recorder, Notepad). All the other software I'll reinstall by hand.
The hurdle that already has me stumped is when I try to hotsync the new T3 to my desktop, I get that "triple beep" (in WinXP, it's a low pitched ding, like a bell). After a few moments of nothing, I get that typical hotsync error of not being able to connect. When I try to hotsync the old T3, I see a "connecting with the desktop using cradle" msg on the T3, but no popup window on the PC appears.
I'm not really sure how to go from here. Some suggestions I have thought up of and tried to no avail...
--rebooting the PC
--swapping a new cradle
What else could be tried? Reinstalling Palm Desktop 4.1.4? If so, how do I backup my data? I my device name were John Smith, would making a copy of the folder "SmithJ" be sufficient? Is there some setting in Palm Desktop that I forgot?
Any help would be appreciated!

| Which desktop software flavor are you using? 4.1.4? I am able to sync my Handspring Visor Prism and a T3 to my XP machine.
You might try using a short user name w/no spaces to start things off. Have you checked to make sure the T3 doesn't have anything touching/crossing the sync pins? Do you have a USB cord/sync cable to try (cheap on Ebay), or only the cradle? If you choose to reinstall the software, I'd save a copy of the backup folder somewhere else on your XP machine so you can pull the software back from it later... If you do that, only add one thing at a time. One of those files might be the problem child. With this method, you could hard reset, check gizmo operations, then start dragging backups back in. Tedious, yet it should work... |

| Thanks for the reply (a real one, unlike a couple of spam ones that nicely enough 1src removed promptly)! I keep forgetting that alot of people have moved on to other devices, platforms, or simply moved on as in they don't check back to this site much/anymore, so above all else, it's nice to see a response.
I ended up sucking it up and contacting Palm for help. Since the device was long past warranty, I ponied up the $24.95 per incident for help. Thankfully, I took notes of what the person did guiding me through the trouble parts, so years from now, if I'm still stubbornly clinging on to the T3 and have to do this again, I'll be much better prepared.
As of current, so far so good. I've about installed all that I wanted. My old handheld had way too much junk on it that I did run close to using up all the handheld memory. At some point, I didn't care about losing saved preferences. The biggest loss there was all the progress I made on various games. If I didn't bother coming back to them for such a long time, then yeah, just start fresh and clean.
