I went to NY Anime Con over the weekend, and picked up Xenosaga I-II for the DS. Really cool. Going to download the .txt file or whatever and copy it over to my iPhone... [Hate me if you gotta, but I grow tired of waiting for Palm...]

Anyway, cool stuff.

quick question about Nintendo DS':

so i managed to win a small lottery of $1000 (i almost peed myself i was so happy) not too long ago. of course, i gave half of that to my parents (because god knows i owe them for everything)

now i've got a few hundred bucks left and i'm looking for a mobile video game console, and naturally it boils down to the Sony PSP and the Nintendo DS. personally, i have used both and they seem about the same to me in terms of how it feels in my hands. size, features, blah blah blah doesn't mean anything to me really. it's what GAMES they can play that makes or breaks it.

i'm an action junky, so games like Mario or stuff like that get boring really fast for me. i'm a fan of games where you really need to think on your toes in order to crush your opponents while avoiding your own death. you'll also find me and my friends at the paintball grounds every summer too

with this, are there any games like Burnout or Rainbow Six/Ghost Recon style games for the Nintendo DS? the DS is certainly cheaper than the PSP so right now i am slightly leaning towards the DS for that lone factor. but i don't want to commit to something that doesn't have what i'm looking for.

given this, is the NDS right for me? or am i looking at the wrong side of the fence here?

Here is one DS lite vs PsP review:
http://www.videogamesblogger.com/20...p-backlight.htm where the more recent comments tend toward PSP.

PSP games are more expensive (not that price is indicative of quality) .

PSP battery life is shorter but if you take movie breaks that also could be a deal breaker.

Another major consideration is does your friends have more PSP games or DS lite games.

thanks for the link, I'll be sure to give that a good read when I've got some time.

I guess price really isn't an issue. honestly, PSP games are usually only about $5 more than DS games, at least in stores around me.

Well, as long as the device can handle 6 straight hours of anything (music, movies, games) that's all i need. THis will be my in-flight buddy for the next 2 years. i'll be flying *a LOT* during the next 2 or so years back and forth between East and West coast of Canada. So essentially i want enough battery to last an entire flight end to end. I'd imagine that both machines can handle that. I've also read that the PSP has some sort of extended/extra battery that you can buy. that's certainly piqued my interest into the PSP.

As I stated just above, this will really just be a solo machine. I won't be using this device with friends to play with, if that's what you mean?

Hmm given the style of your gameplay, I would have to suggest the PSP. DS is more of the old school style gameplay for action games like Contra, Castlevania, Megaman games, while the PSP is more of the new school FPS action with stuff like Socom, Metal Gear Solid, Ratchet and Clank..well, anything with alot of bullets it seems is made for PSP . There is very few FPS like Metroid Hunters and a very good review for Dementium, not the game it self but what it can bring. Even news of Quake wars coming for the DS which would be nice to see. Oh and there is also Ninja Gaiden Dragon Sword coming out later for the DS. Oh the choices ;_;

see, i was afraid of that kind of ordeal, that one system basically owned half of the genres while the other system kept the other 50%.

the other thing is that while those kinds of games are all fun and great for a while, i'm not too keen on shooters that don't require any brain work and they get boring really quick. for example, i fell in love with Rainbox Six when it first came out for the PC because it forces you to plan everything and expect for things to fall apart: you can't just go in runnin' and gunnin'. (I actually kind of like Murphy's Law... sad, I know). if it helps to understand me better:
*Gears of War was OK, Rainbow Six Vegas was better
*Halo 1-3 was boring after finishing them FAST, Ghost Recon Advanced Warfighter is still playable after finishing it twice
*Need For Speed franchise got really boring after finishing Most Wanted, Burnout Takedown and Revenge still have me coming back for seconds

is there anything like that for the PSP? obviuosly i'm not looking for an identical game with all the bells and whistles as found on a PC, but at least a game that requires the player to think about their actions before they do it. I know that I'm a picky video game player, but I only want something that tests your brains and/or reactions more so than something that tests just how fast you can pound the X button and break your controller

Well in that case you should get the PSP as it has what you like, they have Ghost Recon 2, Socom US Navy Seals, Rainbow Six Las Vegas, Burnout Dominator for the PSP. Also the Metal Gear Ac!d series are good, little slow on the action but great strategy games. There is also Puzzle Quest as well for the PSP. Hardcore or casual, many games have became addicted with that game.

Now as for DS, Advance wars Days of ruin is simply awesome! Right in the menu, the song catches me as this is going to be fast paced action game. It is, its more streamlined now with less menu to go through. Online play is excellent in that if you want, just jump into worldwide mode to hook up with anyone without using your friendcode. The story this time around is actually pretty good and wants me to read through it all. I love the anime character art instead of the earlier artwork, not as kiddy this time around. The battle map pretty much looks the same, little tweak here and there but the overall graphic haul is during the battle sequences. Overall, this is a MUST HAVE game in anybody DS library.

Wow, ok I just learned a lesson, if i see a game that I want, don't wait....BUY IT! Thats what happen with me. I remember seeing Tetris but I always said when I saw the game that I'll pick it up next time, its Tetris so its bound to be here till end of life of DS. How wrong was I with that. After a long while of not being in stores and the online places being so expensive (don't know bout ebay, I kinda don't like shopping there) but I saw that a mint copy was $25 at amazon, I jumped on that and man, how I waited so long for this. It really is a great game like everyone said but thats why now a days I do day one buy for games I want. Example is Luminous Arc 2, Metal Slug 7 and Chrono Trigger. All this month, wow .
