| Using a Netbook as a Palm
As most of you have known, I have stopped using my palm TX and invested in a ASUS 1000he netbook.
Basic Specs:
160gb HD
9 hour battery life (28 hour standby)
1.7ghz n280 atom
1024x600 ultrabright screen
Windows XP Home
10.2'' , 3lbs
This is what it looks like:
I recently invested in a DUO laptop pen which allows for tablet functions without actually having a touchscreen. Its a small usb device that is more practical than a mouse
It has seemed to fix all my quells about not using a palm TX, I am quite happy with my replacer
Cost= 350usd.

| Very nicely done, I have the Acer One netbook myself...similar specs, just hadn't considered using a digital pen like you did. The only drawback that I have found using a netbook as a palm, is it takes my netbook 2min to boot up.

| Netbook use is exploding. PDA use will decline because you can't beat a netbook for having the robust amount of programs and size of screen for ordinary usage.
If you travel by bus, I doubt you will see many netbook users because lap space is a bit awkward. PSP and DS users can be found on the bus but not netbook users. This fall would be a good time to see how many College students will be using netbooks in their classes. Maybe more netbook lap coolers will also be sold?

Since my netbook has a 28 hour standby time, I just put it in standby when im not using it (closing the lid). It comes out of standby in less than 3 second
I only hit the shutdown button only once or twice a week to get rid of any fragmented ram

Your right nothing beats Photoshop CS4 on the go
I dont have any heat issues, or need of a cooling pad, here is why:
With the ASUS netbooks I have almost full reign of the motherboard.
I got my own settings for the clock speeds, fan speeds, harddrive speeds, screen power ect.
I normaly run at 600-700mhz (only 100mhz faster than a palm TX lol) but I can run up to 2100mhz when overclocked
The cooling fan is almost always off because it doesn't generate much heat
Whats funny is that the screen on my EEE can get dimmer than my Palm TX with even with brightnessfix.prc on it
It can also get unbearably bright (it hurts eyes at full)

| I still have my palm centro, but its only because I use it to tether my netbook via bluetooth.
I pay 30usd/month to get 3g internet anywhere

I just want to know how are you tweaking those MB specs? Is that built into the BIOS?
Also, is the DUO laptop pen awkward to use? Are you able to completely fold down the screen to write on it like a pad?
Thanks!
Love your approach on mobile computing. I finally got a job that is close to work, but before when my commute was almost 4 hours a day (round trip), I would have definitely taken this route.

| Im altering overclocking speeds by tweaking the FSBclock gen, which increases the speed of everything. I can overclock the poor little 1.6ghz atom to a blazing 2.1ghz
Someone had built a program called EEEctrl which gives user control over the blacklight and fan settings (which you can customize by editing the ini)
Another built a program called quietHHD, which controls the AAm and APM (acostics and power managers) harddrive settings.
the screen goes down pretty far, and since the hinge is so large, you can rest your palm on it when your writing, in portrait orientation you can lay it flat if the keyboard floats up a little. Ive even fliped it 180* and used it with the screen where the keyboard normaly is
Just some tidbits,
out of the 5 laptops Ive ever known, this one has by far the loudest speakers.
The ventilation system (except for the fan because some unfortunate few got loud fans, mine is very quiet) is amazing, since the vents for air flow are tilted on the bottom, I can leave it running right on bedsheets and it doesn't heat up
The EEEuser.com forum is quite similar to 1src when it had a whole bunch of active users. Alot of people are doing the same style mods that we have done here at 1src

| And what are you using for PIM software? Nothing I've tried comes anywhere near a Palm with DateBk.
