| Thanks for the heads up. I'll let Reggie know. There has been something weird going on with the server lately. About two weeks ago, all of the front page articles where listed as being posted on 12/31/1969.

| Disposition of WinMobile 6.5 Just caught your 207 cast. I have a Treo Pro that I will happily give up when the Pre can be had in an unlocked version. In typical MS fashion they will not make it easy for their user base to upgrade. If 6.5 was a major upgrade it would be justified. However, 6.5 is a feature enhancement with long needed bug fixes. Makes the decision that much easier to move away from Windows and to a modern smartphone solution.

| I think the biggest problem with rolling out a new ROM software upgrade is having to go through the full phone vendor/wireless operator certification process all over again. That has to be one of the biggest resource drain's on Palm. Personally, I like to see at least one software upgrade come out per device and so Windows Mobile 6.5 with the enhancements around Internet Explorer 6.1 would be nice. For that matter, I would like to see Palm work with AT&T to obtain certification for the latest maintenance build of Windows Mobile 6.1 so the unlocked Treo Pro customers can have IE 6.1 just like the Sprint customers and others do.

Frankly, Alan, I'm not concerned personally about getting the 6.5 upgrade. I'll wait a bit till the reviews are in on the Pre and if its solid ......... which it already seems to be ........ I'll plan on getting an unlocked version when it hits the streets. It was painful moving from the Palm based Treo. Now, with the Pro at least the form factor is great, but WinMobile continues to be a kludge.
Someone posted recently how dated his iPhone seemed after viewing the Pre demo videos. Imagine what we WinMobile users feel

| Dennis, I know how WM users feel, I have a Treo 750.
The Pre, with webOS does look cool. We'll have to wait for iPhone OS 3.0 before we can declare a winner in the Looks Good, Works Well competition.
As for the form factor, I like the candy bar form factor with a hardware keyboard. I don't care what Jobs said in the keynote, I want my hardware keyboard. I'm not sure how I'm going to like the Pre with the slide out keyboard. With Palm's focus on touch, I can see why they wanted to move away from the Treo design, and having that slide out keyboard is a plus. But I see myself sliding that keyboard out more often then having it closed and I'm not looking forward to floppy slider syndrome again after having used the Tungsten T, T2, and T3. I'm just going to have to play with a Pre before I buy one. I'm not worried about the OS, as you said, it looks solid. We won't know if the slider is going to be a problem for at least 9-12 months after the Pre starts shipping.

| I agree with your points. My assumption is the Pre without the keyboard extended will have a similar (thicker and slightly longer?) form factor to the Pro. That's fine. I'll take that to get a real keyboard and larger screen. My favorite Palm was my Clie NX 80. Could do real work in meetings with it. Can't wait to get that capability back.
About the iPhone ........ the company my son owns develops for the iPhone, Blackberry and, I believe, just applied for Pre development. He has the v3 emulator ..... no great enhancement over v2 that comes anywhere near the capabilities Pre. And he is on Sprint with an expiring contract. You know what he's getting in May
Looks like Palm may be back in business!

| This is not your father's Palm we are talking about. The folks that came in with EP really know how to run a technology company and have been driven by developing a strong hardware and software platform. I will be very surprised if the webOS isn't a solid foundation on day one. It may not have very bell and whistle, but that is what version 2.0's where made for.

The only issue is I now must get rid of my 750 AND Pro before the word about the Pre hits the streets. Will be more difficult to unload then. And because I have to wait for an unlocked version that might not be till Oct-Nov.

| Look for the Sprint Pre to arrive before the end of May, 2009. There has been rumors flying around the Internet that Sprint has gone above and beyond and has secured a US exclusive on the Pre until the end of 2009. That could be a good thing for Sprint, but I'm not sure how much of a good thing it will be for Palm.
Yes, I expect the European GSM Pre to go live before the end of the year, but not having the Pre on AT&T or unlocked could be a problem.
