| MY Retirement from the PalmOS world Hello all,
So as has been announced before, nuRom for LifeDrive (out 3 days ago) and PowerSDHC (out a month ago) were to be my last major projects for PalmOS. I will of course continue updating them as needed, but I do not forsee many big PalmOS projects in the future.
Where to from here? Well, I am making my own OS (development name DGOS) that will eventually be 100% PalmOS compatible, and better than PalmOS. It's well on its way there. I will probably release it once it's ready. You've all been a great audence.
And to set the record straight. I will take back what i said in this interview about PalmOS and GarnetOS not being dead and revise it to be "Palm Inc's PalmOS may be dead, but hold on to your applications. DGOS will blow you away "
Besides that, and many of you know I now work fulltime at VMware, and my future plans include getting an MBA. I will of course continue to be present on the forum .
Thank you all. It's been a pleasure.
---
Former PalmOS developer
Current DGOS developer,
Dmitry Grinberg.

| What about Zodiac support for PowerSDHC?!?!?
I just hope DGOS runs on either the Panora or the Zodiac...
Also, any chance of releasing your abandoned projects as source? (such as that UI demo thing, etc)......not gonna happen, but at least i tried ...

| I am a bit intrigued by your announcement... won't DGOS get tangled in copyright wars? can you really support Palm OS apps without their consent?
A second thought: I am convinced that you have what it takes when it comes to the OS... however, these PDA's and Smartphones sell more because of the apps than because of the OS. Whose going to develop PIMs for you? Or is DGOS going to be stuck with Palm OS's old PIM apps? Quote: | Originally Posted by Yoda :)

| Sweet!
Would DGOS be able to be launched from the PalmOS, or do you need to be able to replace the ROM image?" (which I can't do, mine is truely ROM, not flash or EEPROM) |

| Dude-Your work is amazing. I hate to see you go, but it's always to bigger and better things, right? It's cool you got into VMWare. Maybe they'll get moving, because development has seemed kind of slow for them lately.
PGR-I don't think it will have issues because I think it would be along the same lines as like a World of Warcraft private server. If he's making it himself, it should be fine. And also, look at style tap for Windows Mobile. There is no way they had copyright issues and be able to sell it for that cheap. |

Reverse engineering for the purposes of compatibility is 100% legal (See emulators) and since i do not even need an original ROM to make ti work, they have nothing on me, except for maybe suing me for making them look foolish. Quote: | Originally Posted by Pgr

Anyway, good luck to Dmitry and I hope to see your project unfold soon!

a) I buy a Palm device which brings some licensed PIM's with it, plus Web browser, etc., then I buy DGOS and upgrade my Palm device; or
b) I buy a non-palm device, then buy DGOS, then buy 10 apps to make it work; or
c) I buy a non-palm device, then buy DGOS, then transfer (illegally?) Palm PIM's onto this device?
d) how about starting an open-source project for DGOS base PIMS, I mean, the ones that would ship with DGOS so it's fully operational from the start?
