| Asus Eee PC, yet another reason not to get a Foleo Asus announced the "Eee PC", a 7 inch screen subnote with a choice of 1~8GB of flash memory(compare that to the 128MB of the Foleo). Aims to do everything the Foleo does except the "phone companion" part, which I think would be easily done with additional software. (Although that real time syncing is the last Foleo feature I could possibly care about)
Here's the bang: The price starts at 200USD, only 1/3 of that of the Foleo. And, IMHO, the design looks much cooler then the boring gray plastic Foleo case.

You get more for 1/3 of the price, it's a no brainer. So WTH is going on with Palm's pricing? |

| I have no idea why palm is entering this market with the Foleo. Palm has so much going for them yet they release the sub-par-Foleo and think it's going to make waves.
If palm mixed the Eee PC 701 and a Treo (like a sub-notebook with a built in GSM modem) they would murder the sales. I can only imagine how amazing a sub-notebook with a built in GSM modem and bluetooth headset would be. Keep the laptop in my bag and throw in one of those watches with the txt message and caller ID display and I would be set. You would even have a good size keyboard and screen for all your wireless surfing. Toss a GSM/WIFI toggle feature in and I would buy.
Man I wish SONY would release one of there UMPC's at a sub $500 level. |

| They are actually very different. One is a full blown laptop, the other one is basically a PDA inspired business productivity device that is targeted at mobile accomplishers.
The price difference might seem a bit large at first BUT:
The battery life is only 2-3 hours (and nowhere does it say that these are with wifi ON) vs Foleo's guarranteed 5 hrs+ with wifi on.
The screen is smaller (7'' vs 10'')
The keyboard is smaller
No bluetooth, so you can kiss that phone connectivity and on the fly syncronization bye bye.
The build quality is flimsy.
Once you add all those factors the $250 EEE 701 is actually about the same price as the Foleo.
They are not competitors as they are designed for different things.
My girlfriend for example would benefit more from the 701 as she travels alot and used VOIP (skype) constantly, while not focusing on productivity.
I, on the other hand, am leaning more and more towards the foleo. |

| This is actually old news. But I don't see any reason to pay $500 for what amounts to an external keyboard and monitor. The thing is, that the foleo isn't capable of replacing a laptop, even a subnotebook, so most ppl will now end up carrying another device, rather then getting rid of the laptop. Whereas the Eee PC IS a fully capable laptop... and BT is as easy as a usb dongle!

Not to forget that you can get old but useable computers off ebay for $600 . Way more productive than Foleo.

| My 1st p[am device was a m130 and then a T5 both replaced what I used a laptop for. Now with the Foleo I could do more than I could with my T5. While the price of this asus device is enticing, booting up and shut down8is a turn off to me. Also the larger screen with the Foleo is more appealing as well. The critical factor as well is timing. Foleo will be out in a few weeks (only 4-5 weeks of summer left) and the asus device has no announced release time frame. Heck I'm not aware of any other devices that are comparable to the Foleo. I've looked at a couple and they just didn't seems like what I was looking for. |
