Post Listening to 1SRC Podcasts on a Palm Device

Lance: I thought I might share the various ways you can listen to the podcast on your Palm device. There are several ways to do, and they fall in two different groups. One group involves downloading the podcast to your computer and transferring the podcast to the Palm. Another group involves wirelessly downloading and/or streaming the podcast on your Palm. Great article.
I see interest in Podcasts, but I've also seen some confusion as to how to listen, so your work here is well timed.

Personally, I log my TH55 onto the net via my home (or away) WiFi, download it, and play.
That or listen at work on my PC using Media Player.

Cool article thanks for putting that infor together.

A few things-
1)First I use pocket tunes for the sole purpose of streaming content, so I can say myself that it DOES Support Streaming (I listen to shoutcast). I have the Clie audioplayer for onboard mp3s.

2)Minor-On page 3 "Streaming" just below the second Screen Shot, where it says "Select URL at the top left of the screen" it should be top right I believe.

Well, I talked to NormSoft (makers of Pocket Tunes). While it supports streaming via ShoutCast, they said it does not support streaming MP3's directly via HTTP. If you are able to listen to the podcast directly using Pocket Tunes, please enlighten us.

Thanks for bringing to this to our attention. Since any updates reset the view count of the article and it is not a "gross" error, I will probably let it slide unless Reggie can do something behind the scenes. I still appreciate the correction, though.

Best regards,
Lance

I have an LD, and just upgraded to get the streaming radio etc. When I click on tune in I get a pop up that says "Your device does not support this filetype. Do you want to download to your card? yes or no"

When I save to card and go and try to open the file I get "shoutcast-playlist.pls can't be opened. No applications know how to open pls files.

When I purchased Deluxe I figured this would be as simple as clicking a link and presto it would start to play! I reckon it will go down as another $25 wasted on LD!

I've got iPodder running on my machine, and it automatically checks for updates. At that point it's just a transfer away...

PS: Reggie - when one goes to the "details" link you posted, the "tabbed" pages at the top don't resolve properly (http://www.1src.com/?page=4). The numbers on the right hand side work fine, however (http://www.1src.com/?m=show&id=818&page=4)

Thanks for reporting that. It's now fixed. Thanks!

Btw, I thought of adding page navigation also at the bottom so it will be easier for everyone.

Are there any programs for palm that act as a podcast aggregator? So when I get to a wireless hotspot it automatically checks the RSS feeds and starts downloading any new podcasts? That would be the coolest and it would totally make palm’s the leader in podcasting… or should I say palmcasting!

Oh ya baby, someone was reading my mind! Quick News for Palm OS now supports automatic podcast downloading, support for external storage cards, improved XML parsing, and better attachment handling. This will be great for the podcaster scene! what do you guys think?

Ya, QuicjNews is a fantastic program. I'd say i's the best RSS proggy you can get for PalmOS right now.

Their coders have paid so much attention to little details, it makes the proggy a joy to use!

Request For All Podcast Listeners

Reggie, thanks for the info... ipodder works great.

Now, a request for everyone who regularly listens to podcasts. The bbc are running a trial of podcasts to see if it is regularly used, whether they should offer the service.

Those programs on trial are actually not that great (the documentary archive probably best) BUT if it is successful, they will expand and the bbc is a fantastic resource....

So add them to your ipodder etc, will be worth it in the long run

Go to bbc.com search for podcast and add the pages

Lightbulb Hotsyncing podcasts

On my palm I have installed the program BlueSync. It allows me to hotsync the SD-card with a directory on the PC. I have setup Doppler to put the podcasts into this directory on the PC. Then when I hotsync my palm the podcasts are moved to my palm together with my updated agenda, todos, etc.
Doppler can be setup to limit the number of podcast which are put in a directory so you never have to remove any podcasts. They are removed by Doppler when new podcasts arrive.
So all I do ones per day is a hotsync of my palm. No manual copying anymore. The only disadvantage is the slow speed of hotsyncing big files.

Question: How does one bookmark where one leaves off on the podcast? Sometimes I don't have time to listen to the whole podcast at once and want to begin were I've left off later. It's hard to find my place when the podcast starts at the beginning eveerytime I restart it.
