| Can anyone help me buy a French TH55? Hi there,
My friend and I both want to pick up Bluetooth enabled TH55's, and needless to say, we're impatient. From what I've read in this forum, the French version is on sale and in stock, but I can't read French.
If there's anyone who has successfully purchased a TH55 from a store in France and had it delivered to a US address; and is willing to help me buy a couple of these with Fedex shipping (I also want to be able to confirm they are in stock), I would greatly appreciate it, and will make a $20 payment to your paypal account for your troubles! I don't want to pay more than $475/each, but I think that's what they are selling for here: www.generationpda.fr and here: www.mgmi.fr.
Email me at scottm@choice-med.com if you can help.
Thanks in advance,
Scott |

| I paid about $475 plus alot in shipping. Looks like I made the right decision, though. I was also on the Expansys pre-order list for the UK TH55's, and today they posted their arrival date of April 2nd -- an eternity in our gadget-obsessed minds :-)
Regards,

| The real question to me is WHYYYY did Sony release the US model lacking bluetooth and then turn around and sell one in Europe a month later?
The manufacturing economics would seem to imply that having only 1 model would be cheaper overall than having 2 virtually identical units. Sure, you migh save a chip or two but in bulk they're only a few bucks.

I agree. I think it's just greedy marketing. They bet that people in the US are deadbrains who will buy the next Clie with BT that they may release a couple months from now. In the meantime they may simply lose some customers who move to other brands that provide those features. On the other hand they keep "skimming" the market always releasing a "new" version with a small added feature knowing many people will buy them paying though the nose for it.
I wonder if the BT is simply disabled somehow in the American version.
Anyways.... I'm in the Expansys pre-order and should be receiving my European version soon.

| Has anyone actually figured out whether it was really Sony's decision not to release a Bluetooth TH-55, or the FCC's? It'd be somewhat ignorant to blame Sony for something the FCC didn't want to approve.

Note the part that says: "on behalf of Sony".
