| Palm 3XE - Address Book Query Just got a used 3XE. Software 3.5.3
Downloaded Palm Desktop Ver. 4.1.4 running on Windows XP Home.
My question regards the Hot Syncing of the Address Book. Am I correct in thinking that only the first level address gets transferred to the Palm?
I.E. If a contact only has a HOME address and no Work address in Palm desktop, I should enter the information in the WORK field?
At this point I had started entering information in the Home area but nothing is showing up in the Palm.

| The extra fields can not be used by your IIIxe and are just confusing you. Best to uninstall it and install version 4.1 for Windows NT from Palm® Support Knowledge Library article 33529 "Palm Desktop: all versions."

| Thanks Josser, will try this.
On that Palm support page it says to just load the software over existing. But I guess that is for moving up a level. In my case you are suggesting going back a level, so I should un-install first, right?
Does the un-install leave the backup files for 'contacts', 'memo' in place? Or when I do the first 'Hotsysnc' will my Palm files be moved back onto the PC in the new format?
Just checking as don't want to lose existing data.
Thanks |

| Uninstall leaves all the user data. I would make a copy of the data to be safe.

| All worked fine. In fact, the software 4.1.4 seemed to install the program in a directory called 'Palm1', while the Version 4.1 for NT created a directory of 'Palm'. So nothing overlapped.
As I was bringing in data from a non Palm organiser in CSV format, I had to recreate all the data anyway.
But thank you for the tip to use the Version for NT, Much simpler all round.
Now I just need to search for an import program to synchronize my addresses with Mozilla Thunderbird Ver 2. There seemed to be an add-on for earlier versions but haven't seen anything for later stuff.
Cheers. |
