What do you mean by "real root"? The installer does require authentication, but I assumed it just needed the permissions to install the desktop mounting kernel modules and other things. Other than that I haven't needed to do a single unix-geek thing to configure Missing Sync. I did have to disable the photo conduit, which was causing hotsyncus interruptus, but once that was unchecked, everything has been working smoothly for the most part.
