Hmm, I am using folder /Palm/Images, where are the subfolders art, family, and nature located, which host the JPEG-files named like art001.jpg, art002.jpg, martin001.jpg, susi001.jpg, nature001.jpg, nature002.jpg, and so forth.
Clie Viewer and PhotoStand seem to pick images rather arbitrarily, e.g. susi001.jpg is missing, but susi002.jpg is available, any images named art...jpg are missing completely!
I tried to move all images out of the subfolders to the parent folder (/Palm/Images), but the weird behavior doesn't change at all, same arbitrarily picked images!
Btw. with folder /DCIM it was just the same!
