First, let me thank those who have been constantly reporting spam posts -- you know who you are! Thanks for tirelessly taking time reporting the spam posts.
Just to give you an idea, when you report a spam post, Joel and I immediately get an email about the reported post and when we see the email, we usually delete all the spammers posts and ban the user from the forums.
Because 1SRC has been running a really old version of the vBulletin forum software (we can't upgrade without losing a lot of functionality in the site), there hasn't been any updated spam checking add-ons that we could install to sort of block the spammers from registering and posting. As a result, spammers have been plaguing he site for years.
Recently however, a
certain group has started a site to collect all spammer information and making it open so other popular sites can keep adding-on to the list, keeping it updated. They've released add-ons to popular forum software but since 1SRC is using an older version of vBulletin, there wasn't one readily available that we can use.
Well, not until now. I've managed to revised the add-on a bit so it would work with 1SRC. I've installed the add-on to the system and it looks like it's working well. Hopefully, this would solve the site's spamming problems.
These spammers are smart however. With any new anti-spamming tool or utility that you install, they can find means on creating workarounds in a mater of days, weeks, and/or months. For the meantime however, as long as the add-on works, enjoy a spam-free forum.
Just in case, do continue reporting spam posts just in case you see them so we can add the spammer to the main database. You might also find some other spam posts before today that we might have missed.
Thanks again and happy new spam-free year everyone!
