I have used Sandisk, Sony, and Lexar. They all work fine. Sandisk is licensed by Sony to make the MS, so there certainly would not be an inherent problem with them.

I hope it's not the battery, but I have read the each charge, whether it lasts 10 minutes or 4 hours, counts against the maximum number of charges the battery is capable of. Plenty of people here...

As I recall, these update files are simply stored on your computer in case you have/do a hard reset and the Palm needs to restore OS updates. You should not have to install anything.
