The internal NiCd battery for the wireless radio has failed in the shorted condition. I think you can just remove it, and then use the Palm as normal. Battery life would be back to normal.

Li-Ion batteries like being fully charged, so keep it plugged in as often as possible. There is no danger of overcharging if you use the Palm charger - it turns off when the battery gets full.
