The Ptune and the Th55's audio player

I don't know is anybody has this experience before?
Ptune consumes a lot of battery, and it lasts around 5-6 hours in TH55, but the TH55's built-in audio players lasts more longer than Ptune.
I use the th55's audio player around 8-9 hours for mp3, and the battery life still has around 85%

Yup TH55's audioplayer is the best for saving battery.

PCMaven 05-13-2005 07:50 PM

That's because the TH55 has a dedicated chip for the Audio Player. Other programs can't access this chip so they drain more power.

but, one thing that i hate about it is th55 doesn't support realplayer format because the size of the realplayer format is so small, and i can store up to 100 realaudio songs in a 128MB memory stick.

jjesusfreak01 05-13-2005 08:57 PM

At what bitrate? If the Real format could really do that, it would be the only one anyone used, but since it isnt, im guessing you are using a low bitrate.

Kosmonoko 05-13-2005 09:31 PM

why not use atrac that should work on a 128 MB...

It's a choice you have to make: Battery life vs. storage space

Karim 05-13-2005 11:13 PM

Actually the choice is mainly audio quality vs. storage space and battery life.

I use my TH55 for MP3s on my commute and purchased a 512Mb MS for it. I record my MP3s at 160kbs and the sound is good using the native audio player and my Shure E3C earbuds.

The build-in player will not play VBR MP3s, that sucks.

PCMaven 05-15-2005 08:37 AM

I agree and couldn't use any of the VBRs I had previously ripped for my T-665 in my TH55 but to me it's a small price to pay considering how much I like the rest of the TH55.

What is the difference between VBRs and usual? :o

PCMaven 05-15-2005 09:13 AM

VBR is Variable Bit Rate. Basically it uses a lower bit rate to encode "silence" and a higher bit rate to encode louder portions of a song that need it. Theoretically it saves space without a loss in quality.

Hope this helps.

Its bout the same. I haven't noticed a big hit on battery like I did when I use PocketTunes so now I have MediaAudioPlayer as my set up for listening to music.
