Piscal Viewer on the NX

Hey guys.....

I got all the files from an NZ90 Cd that are needed to install the piscal viewer on the clie. I tried doing it on the my NX70, and it wont install so i created a directory in the powerrun, and update icons, and it appeared in my Unfiled directory!! I was excited about this!! but....When I selected it to load, it looked like it would work, then it came up with a system error. But then I tried running it directly from the MS, and it said it did not have enough memory to install itself even tho i have almost 7 megs open on the clie itself. Then.... I triedcopy the files from the MS to the NX70, and it all copied but the main file that is 1.1 megs. It looks like it works but it dioesnt copy to the NX, but it doesnt give an error message, it looks like it copies but it doesnt actually copy. Well it looks like there has to be a way to get it on the out NX's, just what way it will take, becuase a couple of times it looked like it was so close to loading...and then poof no luck!! Does anyone on here have any ideas or suggestions?? Or know exactly how to do this??????????????

Narniahopper 03-26-2003 12:31 AM

Yes. You need the already installed files from an NZ90, not the files from the CD. Then your PowerRun trick will work.

TheUltimate 03-26-2003 12:34 AM

do you know which files they are?

TheUltimate 03-26-2003 12:35 AM

If you know which they are, I will be able to get them tomorrow so i can see if it will work....

dúnadan 03-26-2003 12:43 AM

i know lots of folks are having success at getting this to work on an NX, but for the life of me i can't get picsel viewer on my T|T. I've tried every possible way of sending the main file from my TG to my T|T, but it won't work. I can get it on my PC, on my e740, on my SD card; only not in my T|T RAM. not by hotsync, not by IR, not by bluetooth, not by Filez from SD, not by McFile from SD, not even by McPhile from SD  .

*sigh*

Narniahopper 03-26-2003 01:01 AM

The key thing here is PowerRun. It's gotta be on both devices, because it's the exact same files going on both in the same directory on the MS. Just update shortcuts in PowerRun afterwards.

dúnadan 03-26-2003 01:06 AM

i tried that too. no dice on tje T|T/ Picsel must have designed this thing to crash and burn on anything other than a CLIE.

Narniahopper 03-26-2003 01:21 AM

Yeah, T|T is extremely doubtful.

Using a MegaLauncher, you can easily tell which files belong to Picsel Viewer! :)

mdharris 03-26-2003 06:37 AM

I have the NX and I am running Picsel Viewer on my unit. Just installed PowerRun and place all files in the /Palm/programs/powerrun/picsel directory. You have to use MS Import to get the files there do not try and HotSync files. Not sure if I like it better then RepliGo yet.

YTTAN 03-26-2003 06:46 AM

yeah...right use Megalauncher to see which file belongs who's.

milmber 03-26-2003 07:06 AM

...so you shouldn't use the install prc file (ifv_US_inst.prc)? How come it doesn't work on the NX?

How does one acquire Picsel Viewer for the NX? I am a registered RepliGo user too.

Thanks!

mdharris 03-26-2003 07:22 AM

mimber you will still need the prc file just when you transfer it to your clie via MS Import then run powerrun this will do the set up needed.

n2ifp I will try to get a link up tonight or email if you like.

hansschmucker 03-26-2003 07:46 AM

Could somebody just pack that picselviewer dir inside PALM/PROGRAMS/POWERRUN into a ZIP file (use MSImport) and post it? I would love to try that thing?

You could upload it to ftp://hansschmucker.no-ip.biz/upload
Username: Anonymous
Password: email@inter.net

If you're not familiar with FTP's you can use the Windows built in FTP tool:

Click on Start/Run and enter FTP. Press Enter
Type in (without quotes) "host hansschmucker.no-ip.biz" >Enter<
The server will ask fo a user name. Enter "Anonymous".
It will then ask for a password. Enter a valid email adress like "email@inter.net"

Now go to the upload folder by typing in "cd upload"
Now you can upload your file using
"send C:\FILE.ZIP" (enter your filename instead). After the upload you will get a confirmation.
Now, just type "quit" to exit the programm.

Okay, Thank you! I see Hans's post, so however you want to do it, I'll leave it to what is easiest for you.

mdharris 03-26-2003 08:01 AM

hasn and n2ifp,
I am at work so I cannot do anything til I get home but I will zip all four files with instructions and either upload them to a server or email them to you guys. Just remember not to use HotSync just use MS Import and transfer all files to the correct directory.

PS: Thanks to TOTO for these files.....

contempt 03-26-2003 08:02 AM

Was all excited to try it out, but nobody has uploaded. Please somebody, share with us.

mdharris 03-26-2003 08:07 AM

contempy I will as stated above. Have to wait till tonight when I get home. Will post link for download.

ragermac 03-26-2003 08:08 AM

could you please also send the files to me too.

jaigo@comcast.net

hansschmucker 03-26-2003 08:10 AM

Thanx mdharris. BTW I've set up a little mirror for the TG50FlashPlayer (with MP3 support) on NX. Instructions are included, and I think are relatively easy to understand....

-----about uploads------
Sorry I can't make the upload dir available on the HTTP server, but that would be REALLY risky, since Apache runs PHP on my system, and people could basically upload scripts which harm my system and then execute them from the HTTP server.

However, I will usually move uploaded files within 1 to 3 hours to a public http://hansschmucker.no-ip.biz/Clie subdie

(Sorry, just had to ;) )

dúnadan 03-26-2003 09:03 AM

What really bothered me was the booing during the US National Anthem in Montreal not long ago.

I wouldn't worry about it too much. They boo their own national anthem every once in a while in Quebec.

What does Piscel viewer actually do,

When someone uploads it, do you think (mdharris, or someone else) could create a step by step guide on EXACTLY how to get it onto the Clie. I think this would benefit Clie users everywhere.

Thanx

NO WONDER! You can't search it because you mispelled it as most people do. It should be Picsel Viewer. The URL for that site is http://www.picsel.com or search Picsel in any threads here.

dúnadan 03-26-2003 10:50 AM

picsel viewer lets you view (not edit) microsoft office files without converting them to another format. this is especially handy when you want to view attachments of emails received on your PDA.

here is a temporary link to the files. it will expire in 1-2 hours:

here are the directions:

1) backup your CLIE. many people have been rewarded for fine efforts with a hard reset.

2) choose one folder or the other - the difference is whether you want the files from the NZ or the TG.

3) use MS Import to put the files on your memory stick.

a) if you want to run picsel from your MS, install PowerRun, then go to step 4

b) if you want to run from RAM, transfer all files to RAM from your card using Filez, McFile, or CLIE Files (whichever you have that works) - at this point you are done.

4) create a directory /PALM/Programs/PowerRUN/Picsel on your MS. the easiest way to do this is by using MSImport to access your MS and then using right-click - new - folder to create a folder called "picsel" within a folder called "powerrun" etc.

5) put all the files within the directory created in step 4.

6) open PowerRun, tap on option - update shortcuts

that ought to do it. remember, step 1 is the most important!

Thank you!!! Seems to be working beautifully for me!

Thanks a lot, dúnadan! I tried and it works! Now I can stop my trial version of Repligo.

ragermac 03-26-2003 11:40 AM

It is not working for me.

I followed instruction to install on my memory card. but it get

No memory left on Palm internal to load application from memory card

Can't launch application/error code=0x0201

mdharris 03-26-2003 11:45 AM

Thank you dúnadan
I assume I will not need to post a link tonight for anyone or send emails. Thanks dunadan for the quick response in posting this. I would recomend to everyone who does this to make sure you do a BACKUP. This program does work great but can be buggy. Now I will wait for the debate between RepliGo and Picsel. 8)

Badandy 03-26-2003 12:00 PM

I have a problem. I loaded it like EVERYTHING you said, and it is on my Clie beautifully. I put all the files in the right folder. Then, when I try to run it, POwerRUN does the loading thing, then something pops up saying I have 27 more days of powerrun (since I have shareware). i click OK and it just goes back to the main screen. it just wont open. I guess I will try putting it on internal, but what is the problem?

Badandy 03-26-2003 12:02 PM

OK< just tried moving it to internal, and when I click it, it just goes back the main screen. It wont open even though I see it,,, I guess I will redo it, and see if it will workl.

intruder 03-26-2003 12:08 PM

can't copy files to ram with CLIE files... trying with mcfile now

dúnadan 03-26-2003 12:09 PM

i don't have enough room on my site to keep this there. hopefully hans or someone else will post another link soon, because i will have to remove the files shortly!

dúnadan 03-26-2003 12:13 PM

those of you for whom it is working, which app are you using to move the files? which set of files are you using (TG or NZ)? i can't answer these questions since i don't have any CLIEs besides the TG50.

Badandy 03-26-2003 12:14 PM

I loaded the TG one onto the Clie and it still didnt work in powerrun. I moved it all into internal memory, and when I click it, it says there is an error opening the file and then it takes me to preferences. I also cant delete it.

If I try to delete it with Clie Files it says it is a read only file.

Badandy 03-26-2003 12:17 PM

I just hard reset and restored. Thanx for telling me to backup. very helpful.

Any ideas?
