how can i use a tc to telnet cisco routers with a vt100 emuator i have a serial cradle i can perform hotsync,i wanna use this cradle to telnet cisco routers with a vt100 emuatlor software ,which one should i choose, and it supports palm os 5.2 |
I still use ptelnet for that kind of stuff; Haven't found any other serial/telnet apps which are substantially better. I used to do a similar thing, but with an IR<->Serial dongle. Being able to program a router or do light headless-server maintainence from a PDA is just nifty (and ptelnet's Macros are handy too!) |
Cyker: i have tried ptelnet,in the interface i choose to connect the routers whatever usbd usbc ser0 ser1 there is no response on the screen, did i have some problem with the ptelnet, could you tell me the details about the settings in the ptelnet?thx! |
Bearing in mind I did it using IR, so you may need to change certain things, here's how mine is setup: In Serial menu: Port: Infrared Baud: 9600 Parity: N Word: 8 StopBits: 1 Xon/Xoff: Yes RTS/CTS: No -> You may need to alter those settings, and definitely need to alter the Port to whatever Serial port is available on yours. The rest of the settings should work with most routers. Terminal menu: Mode: Serial Return: CR Local-echo: Yes -> The other options can be set to what ever you like. Return and Local-echo you'll have to test. With all that set, just secure the cradle to the PDA and the router Console port, tap the "On" and type some stuff in ;) If it don't work... then I dunno. However, it's possible your Serial cradle doesn't support DCE/DTE communication - Most modern Palms don't have full serial connection ports and can only Hotsync with them. Or so I'm told...! |
This sounds like a great idea. I have thought of using my Treo 600 to telnet into the switches I help manage, but I can't phone into our network from the Verizon network. I am going to have to try this out using a serial connection. |
Cyker: in my ptelnet settings In Serial menu: Port: Infrared usbd usbc ser0 sir0 (i have tried every port except Infrared, but on the screen still no response, did the ptelnet supports palm os 5.2 ) Baud: 9600 Parity: N Word: 8 StopBits: 1 Xon/Xoff: Yes RTS/CTS: No |
