They are scarce. SONY stopped making them. I think the best solution is going here...

OK, I'm about to reveal my lack of electronic engineering experience, but here goes...

Were you to couple the two batteries described into the JC40 but add a +5V voltage regulator between the batteries and the cradle contacts, would this not then negate the need to modify the UX50 for voltage regulation purposes?

I really like the idea of this mod, but I'm not keen on playing with my UX's internals....

To Mr m0nkeyb0y,

as I know, stepping up 4.2V to 5V having less power loss than voltage regulating
8.4V to 5V (stepping down) & there are NO Power Loss for just paralleling batteries.

if you don't wanna mod UX50 internal, following method maybe better

I'm gonna try a different mod. Not as nice as yours but it might just work. :)

Make sure you take some pics as you JAmerican. That way it is much easier to explain what you have accomplished later (and us inept ones can see exactly what we are supposed to be doing!)

JAmerican 07-13-2005 09:25 AM

I always take pics of my mods :)

Hippo - is it still possible to charge an EB40 on the cradle once it has been modified?

Hippo 11-25-2005 07:11 AM

the cradle still can charge EB40 as normal but my UX won't accepting power from EB40 after modifcation.

Hippo,

Is there a way to cut the second terminals connection without permanently severing the connector? Can the solder point be desoldered and insulated so that normal operation can be restored at a later date?

I'd just like to know as I may like to purchase an EB40 some time in the future ;)

Thanks.

rofl hopefully my project will solve all these questions....

http://www.1src.com/forums/showthread.php?t=101527

its going to use the standard clie cradle and if possible hole 2 1500mah batts... (the batts arrive in 2 days HURRAY).....

and no mods to the clie will be needed... just wait JAmerican is my first tester :) :p

Pin 2 can be re-connect as it was anytime if I want to recover it's original function.

I was gonna remove the connecter points from the white connector but didn't want to do that much. I have like two more of the MS/USB/connector pieces but only one of them have my MS mod so I just converted the connectors and did the foil thing. I also didn't want to have to solder my USB mod directly to the strip so having the connector there is good for me due to I can't put stuff back together correctly most of the time.
