SJ33 Won't Power Up / Blank Screen
 

Hi all. I have watched the boards for sometime and have got a few solutions from them and so I am hoping you can help my dad out with his Clie problem. Below is the problem he is having..

While playing a game I got a low battery warning (6%) so after finishing game the unit was shut off and placed on the hot sync cradle. Then power strip was turned on (turning on the cradle power). The light was green not red so the unit was removed and replaced. After some time 1/2 hour or so I tried a hot sync and nothing happened. Palm window on computer was displayed at time of hot sync. Since then I have tried soft and hard resets, I have tried charging on the cable (without hot sync cradle incase contacts are dirty), I tried soft and hard resets while on charger all with the same result, the green light stays on continuously except when the reset is pressed. I left on charger cable over night so the battery should be fully charged. The screen on the clie stay blank and from the start has been blank or off.

I did search and saw one other poster that had this problem, but there didn't end up being an answer beyond removing the battery. Hope you can help and thanks very much.

Oh my goodness. :eek: Since last night I have gone through the SAME exact problem you have!!!! I even took my CLie apart to no avail. Did you ever get your Clie to start up again. I've given up hope!!! :(

Try this: Do a WARM Reset, while the SJ-33 is in the cradle. You shouldn't loose your data. And it may reset the PDA's charging voltage settings. Your symptoms sound similar to what happened to a few of us with our 33's about a year ago.

By Warm Reset, I mean:
1) Press and HOLD the pageup button.
2) Press the stylus tip into the reset hole in the back of the SJ-33
briefly.
3) Wait until you see the Palm logo, then release the Pageup button.
4) Now wait. It can easily take 30-60 seconds for you to end up at
the preference screen.

And in your situation, you need to do this while it's plugged into a charger.

I have had a similar problem, but have found that the following worked (don't ask how I got this...)
do a soft reset.
When the Palm Logo appears, put the Clie on hold and do another soft reset.
Leave this for a few minutes then switch on normally.

(on a couiple of occasions, I had to plug in the charge lead for a short while before the switch on.
