Do you still USE the original palmpilots? I'm just wonderin...is there anyone here that actually USES the old palmpilot still? |
I have a broken one... Darn LCD went out... Otherwise I could say yes... LOL |
What I want to know is why there is no forum for the original Pilot - you know, the Pilot 1000 and Pilot 5000. As far as your poll - nope. I no longer have mine. Dummy me - I gave them away. |
i would like to hold an original palm pilot, i've never even seen one |
I just remembered... Back in the day (6th grade :p) when I got my first Visor (2MB), everyone started copying me. During the next few weeks, you saw kids bringing in their dad's old 5000 and other older models like that...it was funny :D. Yet, I used my Visor for PIM AND games, and they used their 5000's for games... Now, as a Freshman, I bring in my NR70, and people pop out their cell phones to try to "impress" me :p. But, I beat them once again w/ my 3650 :D. (and that would be why I'm getting the T|T3) |
I'd probably use it if I ever owned one. I mean, you can still grab software for it online and I believe there was a 2MB upgrade. |
I still have my PalmPilot, but I don't use it. Who knows? It might be worth some money. When the Smithsonian comes calling, I'll be ready! :-D -Roberto |

They already called ;) http://www.brighthand.com/article/E..._to_Smithsonian |

I didn't see the HP OmniGo 100 in that article's photo! I've still got mine (in mothballs). I think it may have been the first PDA to come in a clamshell and tablet form factor. Clamshell view: Tablet view: |
wow that's too old! |
Hell, I'm still using my IBM PC with 2 floppies and 64K of ram. |
Can't quite remember what I did to my old PalmPilot. I guess I sold it to a friend... I moved on very quickly after the Visor came out... Won a SONY Clie so got rid of the Visor and now I ordered me a Tungsten T3... all within 5 years... and still, I don't do much more with my Clie than I did with my Palmpilot: PIM, Games, News. |
mine got stolen two and half years ago (it was in the sports bag), and after a year of euhm'ing and ah'ing, i got myself a t665c and now a zire71 while i wait for something that fits my needs.. what a jump i tell you ! i still remember it with fondness... |
My best friend, who uses a Clie N760C, has one lying around... He doesn't have the sync software for it, but his sister apparently uses it for PIM stuff. |
My friend has a Pilot personal. It has a crack in the screen where the menu button is. He doesnt use it anymore, he got a VIIx and now an m500. I still prefer the pop-up version of the launcher to the seperate app thing. |
I've never seen a Palm Pilot --- I only hear the term used by those outside the PDA usage arena in reference to PDAs in general. "3 new Palm Pilots released" They ought to start using PalmOne somewhere in 2015... |
It started out just as the "Pilot"... then they added "palm" to the fron of that to make it more marketable... then Pilot (the pen company) sued over the name because the stylus is too much like a pen- so they cut "pilot" and called the new ones just "palm"... Now it's much more confusing with palmOne and PalmSource.... |
I still have my original Palm Pilot Personal 512K RAM...it still works just fine.....one time at the airport when they still hand checked stuff one of those bozos dropped, (not in its case); the whole thing flew apart, circuit board going one way, case one way, door the other way.....I picked up all the pieces and plugged everything back up....You guessed it, turned it on and it worked fine.... Only reason I went to my current 505 was I wanted more memory so I could run a Tide Prediction program that 512K could not handle! |
Flew apart and worked fine? WOW I want to own a pilot 1000 lol.. |
You can still find 1996 vintage Pilot 1000's and 5000's (the original Palm/USRobotics handheld's) on eBay. And the Computer History Museum in Mountain View, CA, has one of the original Palm prototype boards that predates even those. The oldest one I have that is still working is a 1997 PalmPilot Pro. |
I have a good start on my own musaum:D for ex, my toshiba lptop is 9 years........ |
9 years isn't old. At the Vintage Computer Festival, a lot of people had 25 year old PC's that are still in good running condition. Several science museums have mechanical calculators which are several hundred years old. |
My Palm Pilot is more than 5 years old and still working. It is my "fall back" and backup unit. |
I wish mine still worked... similar crack in the screen. |
The motherboard in my Palm Pilot Personal died a violent death one day. I bought a Palm Pilot Pro and the 2mb upgrade for it the next day. I eventually sold that PDA and have a T3 today. |
I still have a working Atari Portfolio. Runs at a whopping 4.9 MHz. But it's the Grandpa of PDA's, and it did a lot for it's time. |

My laptop that I USE is 9. |
I still have my Pilot 5000 and it works great. I power it up on occassion for the fun of it. It's a great little machine. |
I still have my first palm, the Pilot 5000 with a 2mb/IR upgrade. It died about 3 yrs ago and thats when I bought my Visor. About a year ago I got bored and took it completely apart, cleaned it and put it back togheter---and it works. It still has a place of honor next to my T3. |
Wow, I know this is an old thread, but I couldn't resist. I work with a guy who is a hardcore programmer, and he still uses his Palm Pilot 1000 every day. He syncs it both at work and his home PC, and stores all of his addresses, phone numbers and memos on it. He also develops applications for it whenever he comes up with a need. Every time I see it on his desk, I can't help but comment as to why he hasn't upgraded yet. His response is that it does everything he needs it to do, and he has no reason to upgrade. While I suppose that may be true for him, I'll stick with my T|T3! :) |
Broken M100 I have the Palm M100. When i put batteries in it (that are fully charged) it just makes a high pitched humming noise. It will not turn on, no matter what i do |
I still have a palm Vx and Magellan GPS sled that I use for work-related GPS navigation (since my work can be dirty and grimy at times). I also use it for OBD-II diagnostics with my family's various vehicles when someone is having a problem. I do have a T3 for my main workhorse though. |
Whatever happened to Jeff Hawkins? |

I never had an original PalmPilot, as I was happy using my Atari Portfolio when they were introduced. I still have my Palm IIIx (upgraded to 8MB), and use it from time to time. I sometimes find the monochrome screen for reading e-books than my TH55 (although the larger screen on the TH55 is nice). |

My ancient Palm III rests in a shallow grave in the neither regions of my closet. Memories... My old Palm IIIx is being used by my wife. |
I use my old Workpad c3 2MB for reading ebook in the garden etc. Fabian |
First I had an m105, which I later replaced by a T615c, which suddenly couldn'T charge any more, I switched to the NX70v, which eventually broke (The connector that connects the diplay controller to the display broke), I switched to a Zodiace2 which broke during a game of airhockey, becasue the table was unfortunately at the same hight as my pocket. Luckily I kept my m105 (I used during my army time, whenever I had to work outdoors) and it still works.... Does this answer your question? ;) |
