Atrac
 

I'm using sound stage to make atrac files, i have a clie nx70v/e with a 256 memory stick pro magicgate card it says that i can use atrac with this card but i cant play them on my clie. does anyone know how you can play atrac files with the clie as i here there alot smaller files than mp3.

You can't currently use the MS Pro's with the Sonic Stage program. Only the older Magic Gate Memory Sticks. Supposedly there might be an update in the future.

sorry I just found this out too, but i cant event get it to check out files with the blue sony cards i get a message that says you cant use this card as there is no copyright.

The blue sticks are not copyright-capable. You need to use the white (Magicgate) sticks for atrac format music.

Blue sticks are capable of playing mp3 files though.

Personally, I would never reccomend that anyone use ATRAC due to it's complications. I do use it because I have alot of music and I already own MG (white) MS's from my previous audio player. If you didn't have an NX, you could play Ogg Vorbus on your CLIE which are identical in size and compression to ATRAC but are half the trouble but since Sony had thier heads up thier you-know-what you cannot play Ogg due to the Sony API and not a Palm OS audio API.

Does anybody know how much smaller an ATRAC file is than an MP3?

I just put 60 tunes (some long, some regular length) on a 256 MS Pro stick and it's pretty much full. I wonder how many ATRAC tunes would fit?

I have a white mg card but its a pro, i have put atrac music on it now but i cant play it in the audio player as it does not come up only mp3s will come up in the play list.

do i need another audio player i'm using version 3.0.

You need one of the old white sticks, not a new Pro stick, to play atrac format music. Pro sticks do not support MagicGate technology yet (don't ask why - Sony only knows!).

Hmmm... I have a SONY brand 256mb Memory Stick PRO (model MSX-256) that clearly says "Magic Gate" right on it in big letters.

Yes, it says MagicGate but it does not support the function in existing devices. At some point in the future Sony may deem us worthy of a patch etc to get it to work! (Hopefully!!)

Also, I think if you check most Sony paperwork (including the packaging of the MS Pro) I believe that it does state that MagicGate is not supported at the moment too.

It is annoying to me too, as I would love to have a Network Walkman or Clie that can carry around upto 160-or so atrac plus tracks on MS (or even more with a 512 or 1Gb stick). My existing Network Walkman can fit 160 songs on the internal 256 Mb memory and a further 80 on an additional 128 Mb old-style white Magicgate Duo stick. Come on Sony!

Atrac Plus? They play on the CLIE? I never could get them to work!
