Whining and Movies

I had my first UX50 and after two weeks it started doing this noise (the whining noise that was already discussed in another thread). It was very noticable and I had to return it. I ordered another one and I have it for two weeks now and it does not make any noise at all.
I did play movies and flash player files in the first one I had before it started making the noice. I haven't run any movies in the second one yet (fearing that the noise might start because of playing high resol. movies). Can some one confirm that he/she is playing movies on their UX50 without getting ANY noise?
I won't play any movie until someone replys
Thank you
Husam

Interesting post. My UX50 also degraded in terms of noise after 2-3 weeks. I focused during that period on getting movies onto the UX50 and playing them. I've got that procedure down so that it works, but the noise is a problem. I'm working with a Sony service guy locally on this. He's researching the problem, as he has not heard about this before. He is willing to get me a new one, if that's what it comes down to. I suggested holding off getting a new one, untill he could find out about this. I didn't want to get one, and have it the same or worse.

Any more opinions?

Does anyone play movies on their UX50 and have no noise problem?

Jookwarrior 11-06-2003 11:25 AM

even if someone found that the whine is directly correlated with playing a hi-res movie (pixels changing too fast for the screen to handle causing stress to the transistors and capacitors?) would you keep your clie and NEVER play a movie?

for me, that's not a choice at all.

Wll,
Jookwarrior. Does that mean that yours make noise or not?
That is all what I want to know.
Some people said that some UX50 make this noise anyway (due to quality control problems). If I find people who play movies on their UX50s without getting this noise, I will be convinced that it is not corelated to movies, but to the units themselves.
Thank you

My co-worker has one that I've directly compared with. Mine is twice as loud as his. His is completely acceptable in terms of noise. He's been doing movies. I'll monitor the times he's played. For now, it looks like it's not corelated to playing movies, but quality control. My question is, does Sony have any control over quality control, as it relates to this noise? That's the issue.

I play movies on my UX and nope.. never noise on my UX at all.

Jook -- I think the point of the thread is to try and figure out if there's anything specific that causes the problem. It's a matter of diagnosis, which is the first step in a cure.

Local Sony service has ordered a new LCD part for me. Just have to wait for it to arrive. At least it saves me having to reload a new UX.

I had already done some analysis as to which part of the lcd could cause the problem...

I wish there was just 1 thread.

LCD Part? will you be installing this part yourself? what kind of a part is it?

it'd be really funny if Sony sends you a pair of earmuffs/headphones/foam insulation.

hahahah

:D :D :D

mine does have a sound (effective range around 2-3 cm).
I am a heavy video user.

I also think that you're going to be hard pressed to find a clie ux owner that doesn't use it for videos. we did pay freakin premium prices for an "entertainment pda" for crying out loud. am I right?
