I am beggining to hate my t 665 I originally had a t-615, bought it just before Christmas with a extended warrenty from Best Buy. After owning it for about 4 weeks the battery died and I had to take it back to Best Buy after a long run around at Best Buy they gave me a T 665 after I paid the differnce between the two models. Since I brought the T 665 Home I have had nothing but problems with it. It seems that no matter what I do I keep getting random Fatal Errors that cause the unit to lock up. After it happens the back ups I make dont work I keep getting the fatal error on reboot after restoring the back up. I have followed the suggestions on this board by removing the last app I installed but it doesnt seem to matter, I have been through countless reinstalls from scratch and nothing works. It just keeps doing it. ARrrrrrgh. What am I missing here. Aatten |
That's weird....I've had my 665 since Oct 02 and the only fatal error resets I have had were caused by a bad hack and an app that I didn't install correctly with all the files. |
Me too - proud T665 owner since last October and I've had only one hard reset (which I accidentally caused) and have seen maybe 2 fatal errors when I was playing with some hacks. Maybe you should do another hard reset, don't install any hacks and keep the apps to a minimum, and see if it runs better. If not, maybe you've got a lemon? |
When you set up you 665 did you use the same hotsync name? When you did your first hotsync did it install everything you had on your 615? Just wondering if some crucial file from 615 is incompatible with 665. If the above scenario sounds familiar try hard reset and use different name, or if you need the same name remove all files from backup directory in "program files\sony handheld\hotsyncname" |
I recorded my migration from the T615C to the T665C, including files to NOT transfer across. It may be of help. |
I have my T675C (which is similar to the T665C) since October and didn´t have any problem caused by the Clié. I´ve had several hard resets (also due to betatestings), but I always have been able to find the cause. Always software problems or mistakes I made. I live my machine:) |
Follow Tanker Bob's formula . . . you won't be sorry! OR, after a hard reset (remove everything out of your device name folder under Sony Handheld folder, sync just your PIM info, and then load your owned apps one at the time, doing a little test driving after each load to see if there are problems with that app. Good luck!! |
I appreciate the responses. I just used the back up function that came with my clie and i didnt overwrite the files that it prompted me were newer on the clie, with exception of the address and date book address. At this point I was able to reset with-out a fatal error. Maybe there is hope. Thanks for the direction, I will let you know how it goes after I try it out tonight after work. |

There's one more thing, if using the same hotsync name I had to delete the users.dat file in C:\Program Files\Sony Handheld\. Without this you will have headaches that come back to haunt you. Also, make sure to copy the user folder elsewhere till everything is setup properly in case you need it. Leland :D PS, I've been a happy T665C user since december when switching from a N610C. So I just did this same change with excellent results!:D |
Well after deleting the user dir under the palm desktop all appear allright been running for about 3 hours with no fatal errors. I will keep you posted thanks for all the help. |
Aren't you guys glad that this lad will finally (hopefully) love his T665, one of the best PDA now. This is the strength of Cliesource and we should keep it that way. Bravo.... |
And maybe he/she will register :D I would personally recommend another backup program over the built-in one. I use Card Backup, but there are other good ones out there that have a variety of features - some do incremental, some do multiple backups, some do compression, etc., as well as combinations of these and other things. I'd agree with Tanker Bob that it's related to 615 files that should not be on the 665. I made the same move and had a similar problem to what you're having. I finally broke down and installed every app and data file from scratch. The crashes mostly went away. Good luck. |
yea my t665c was crashing alot too when i just got it like 3 weeks ago, but it was because i was trying alot of new software on it and some just didn't work right. somethings it just keep rebooting so i had to hard reset it. i also got a 2 year extend service plan from fry's electronics for $29 cause my friend that works there told me to but i was like my old palm is still working after 3 years he told me to just get it cause its a instance exchange and in about a year or so they won't have a t665 anymore and he told me my palm should mysteriously stop working hehe. so its kinda like a $29 upgrade |
