Anyone had a screen break for no apparent reason? I was carrying my NX70V around in my pocket, closed up. I pulled it out to start working on it, and there was a giant crack down the center of the screen, spidering out from the bottom, where it looks like someone took a ball-peen hammer to it! But whoever took the hammer to it must have been hiding inside the Clie, because there are NO marks on the screen coating or the magnesium case. And I didn't drop the thing. Very odd. Anyway, I called that damn Sony automated voice thing, which didn't help me at all. I had to give it some fake service number. That confused it and it had to hand me over to a live human being. Score. It looks like it's going to cost me $175 to fix this thing. $150 for the screen, $25 for shipping. GRRRR. |
Ouch. I hate to hear that. I've never had a screen break like that on me. This is why I have the CompUSA plan on my handhelds. Unlike many other stores, it will actually cover broken glass. |

Yes, $180.00 USD is the going rate and Sony doesn't cover screen breakage. I have no clue what caused it. I am sorry to hear about you misfortune, ouch :(! |

I have heard of this, unfortunately! Here are some places that are very good and cost less then Sony's repairs. Also, some of them give you their own warranty and some don't so please check for what you would like them to give you. ARGH! No one will replace the 320X480 screen!!! Sorry about that!:( |

Whoooooaaaa A little more info than I needed to know there amigo! |
My wife's NX70's screen broke in her purse and she had no way to explian what happened. I suspect that a pen or something got between the screen and keyboard and her purse got squashed fracturing the screen. We decided to have Sony repair the unit as I could not convince BB that it should be covered by warranty. I suppose they were right (thought the warranty, as verbaly described, was too good to be true) but they ended up refunding $61.21 of the extended warranty. That was fair. Sony did a quick job fixing the screen. It only took about a little over a week. I delayed 3 days in responding to the authorization. If you send it in and authorize the repairs up front, you can do this on the service form, the repair will be really quick. Once I authorized the $188.79 (total cost) repair we had it back in 2 days. Sorry to hear about your misfortune. |
Probably sat on it??? Bad luck. :( Still, I wonder why people insist on BB fixing stuff that the user has broken. Accidents happen, but you can't expect the seller to fix accidents. You have a warranty on your car, but you don't take it back to get a new one when you are in an accident..... Why should BB be forced to give you a new one when you broke it? I used to work there and know what it takes to actually break a screen. They are near indestructible, but sitting on them, or forcing them open, or slamming them on a table(all of which I have seen done) will crack the screen. They will not just break for no reason. There is also no amount of heat on the Earth to crack a screen. Well, I suppose if you took it to the desert and left it for an hour or so, then took it straight to Siberia, the heat change might break the screen. I live in Texas and have left mine in the car for days and had no broken screen........ sorry for the venting.........whew....glad it's over......... :) :) |

I understand. But the fact is, I had it in my pocket the whole time, and if I had bashed it, I would have known. There are NO marks on the screen or on the case, and I didn't drop it. I don't expect it to be fixed for free, I'm just mystified on how it broke. With many glass objects, all it takes is a *tiny* tap in just the right place, and they will shatter. I'm assuming thats what happened here. Because, honestly, this PDA has been through much tougher hell than any knocks it got that day. I've had it for 8 months, and it has been witness to MUCH debauchery. Anyway, I'm looking into getting a belt case for it. Anybody know a better one than the $50 leather one on the Sony webstore? As for the guy who was a little annoyed Best Buy wouldn't replace his screen.... there ARE places that offer screen repair warranties for PDAs, but they are usually kind of expensive. I personally wouldn't buy a warranty that DIDN'T replace the screen, as pretty much nothing else breaks on these things. |
GET A dEAD PDA FROM E-BAY AND FIX IT YOURSELF. I DID THE SAME ANAND |
The same thing happend to me around a month ago the only fee that we pay was the U.P.S. SHIPPING from Puerto Rico to the repair center in san diego the rest was cover by sony warranty. sony ship back in two days. |
