Hard reset fails to sort out Clie

Hi,

Just had one of the usual fatal errors and performed a reset.

My Clie (T-425) will not get past he 'palm powered' screen and has a flashing square cursor in the top left corner.

Have tried all 3 resets (normal, warm and hard) but no difference.

Does anyone have any ideas? All I can think of is to let the battery run down and then restore everything (backed up last night onto MS)

Thanks

Gren

PS Anyone know about Sonys warranty in this case - send back for repair / replace. My clie is about 9 months old.

My experience is to do the reset again. The flashing is called debug mode. Just do the hard reset again. Remember, once you do a hard reset, you next hotsync will restore form desktop files which is located in program files/sony handheld/user id/backup folder. If you have any hacks or corrupted files, they'll be reinstalled on your you next hotsync. Delete the files or hacks you don't want reinstalled form the backup folder before you do your first hotsync.

Thanks Jimroad but nothing works.

Can't switch off. Reset button does nothing. It's dead!

Any other thoughts out there, it's not looking good.

Well, I went through four hours last night of finding what was corrupted in my T665C (it must be an epidemic of fatal errors <G>). . . . I didn't notice this the first time I did a hard reset, so just on the remote chance that you didn't see it (if you're getting that far at all) --

After a hard reset, when the screen is dark (no backlight) I got a prompt asking "erase all files? Press up button for yes, any other button for no."

First time, I happened to still have my finger on the power button -- having seen earlier recommendations you hold that power button down a LONG time for a hard reset -- and that constituted a no.

After that, I held the power button down a long time but let it go before I got to that screen.

This is a thought. Do you have a screen protector installed?Sometime the screen protector has a small abnormality that can disrupt the digitizer on a extremely senstive screen!! Also, make sure you format MS. If that fails, you gonna have to exchange the unit which is PITA!

Thanks for all the ideas guys.

Current state of play is :

palm powered screen with flashing square cursor in top left.

Power button doesn't work.

Soft reset, warm reset and hard reset all do the same thing - screen goes dark then palm powered screen reappears. Can't get past this screen. Left the unit alone and it hasn't changed for over an hour.

No screen protector used. Have had Clie for 9 months - okay I've got loads of crap on it (don't we all) but this looks like maybe a ROM corruption/failure.

Changing units might not be so bad. My wife works for Sony UK and she's just spoken to the product manager for Clies who's asked her to bring my Clie to her tomorrow for a diagnostic check. Might even get an upgrade as the unit is now outdated (what Clie isn't?)

Thanks

Gren
