Worst yet: Ask for license AND lost data Shrink: When re-installing the GA v1.1 of BellTime, it asked for Registration data I gave AND immediately after it displayed WITHOUT my settings! All the alarms previously configured gone. Fortunately, a backup of Saved & Unsaved Preferences restored all the configuration... |
Jaap, Are you only selling BellTime through your own site or do you use any third party vendors? Version Tracker is saying this program cost $10, but the only place I have found it available is at your site for 10 euros or about $15. Perhaps Version Tracker doesn't know the difference between a Euro and a dollar. Frankly, I'd rather have a Euro. Anyway, if you use third party vendors please let us know. Thanks. Stu |
Shrink, hk3ctj and others who downloaded the beta version 1.1.1c : Sorry for the problems. I have to cancel this version. Please use the previous full version 1.1 or the lite version 1.1.1LT. Stu: I have only PayPal at my site. Version Tracker is wrong. Thanks Jaap |
BellTime and Watchmaker lock my Palm TX over night Quote:
I have a very similar problem, both with Watchmaker and with BellTime. I didn't know exactly where the problem was, so I had opened a thread here. What happens is that I set an alarm to go off in the morning, and quite frequently I would oversleep (alarm would not ring) because the Palm locked (screen turned off and no response to any of the buttons. I find that the battery had drained down fast, and a soft reset could work or not, depending on how much battery remained. According to the thread I mention above, I did a hard reset and re-installed most applications. The Palm is working fine, no more crashes. But the problems with WatchMaker and Belltime remain (I overslept again today and the battery was so low that I couldn't even soft reset). As _Em mentioned in a post in this thread, his Palm would also lock sometimes with Watchmaker. I was thinking it was random, but maybe the battery does run down fast, and the Palm locks or not depending on how much battery there was when the alarm was set (if a lot of battery remaining maybe there was not enough time before waking up for the battery to run down completely, and a soft reset was still possible). Also, I definitely don't have more than one alarm or event or anything set for the same time as bluefishCFC mentioned. I don't know if Belltime or Watchmaker are the problem, as I am still investigating. I'll keep you posted. |

Actually this is what _Em said about Watchmaker: "I've woken up to WM for the past 4 years... only times I've slept in are: 1) when I was able to randomly hit the OK button when still asleep (maybe make the snooze button big and the OK button small on the alarm screen?) 2) when I got lint in my headphone jack and the alarm didn't audibly sound 3) when my Palm locked up overnight. Total instances of sleeping in while WM alarm set: 8 in 4 years. Better than any other alarm system I've ever used." But "3) when my Palm locked up overnight." says nothing about the cause of the lockup. My suggestion to analyse your problem: Set an World Clock alarm just 5 minutes before your Watchmaker alarm, so you'll see if you at least can reach the World Clock alarm. |
@ Mickets You title your Post Quote:
This reads like a fact and puts blame on the applaications But, then at the end of your Post you say Quote:
All of this is confusing to readers and unfair to the author. As I said in the other Thread, I have had no problems with WatchM or BellTime. Both are very popular apps and reported as being stable by many users. There seems to be something wrong happening on your Palm that is being brought to your attention when you use WatchM or BellTime, this does not necessarily mean that those apps are at fault. Jaap has made a good suggestion about using WorldClock first to see what happens :) All the best, woz of oz |

Sorry, I did not mean to blame the applications at all. I'm sure that if there were any problem caused by them, others would report. In fact, I like the applications and are considering puchasing BellTime, but first I need to solve the problem (or else I can't use the apps). I did say in my post that "I am still investigating. I'll keep you posted.". I did investigate some more and have come across some users reporting problems with the Palm locking when under-clocked and also a bug in the Palm TX Security Panel (I just read about this right now and must test and read more about it). I did try what Jaap mentioned (set World Clock to alarm a couple of minutes before BellTime), and that alarm did work all times I tried (i.e.: the Palm didn't lock with the alarms from World Clock, and it never has with Calendar or Tasks alarms). And today I had an alarm in BellTime and it did not ring: the Palm locked and the battery ran down to 20% in just a couple of hours (since I last had it on). But that may mean nothing, as it seems random. I'm pretty sure it has nothing to do with either BellTime or Watchmaker, just that they seem to show the problem exists. I hope I find the problem and solve it ASAP. What would the ideal clock setting be for BellTime? I tried as low as 156, and now it's back up to 312 (actually, I don't even remember what the default clock speed setting is). |
Investigating why my Palm crashes, preliminary report All, Following this and some other threads I mentioned, I have some preliminary results. Investigating this forum I have found some possible causes of the Palm TX locking, among which some could be the cause on my TX:
So I:
For two days the Palm did not lock once, and BellTime worked 100% of the times. No oversleeping! This evening I decided to revert just one of the items I changed, just to see what happend. So I changed the Auto-Lock settings back to "After 10 minutes", and set a timer in BellTime. The alarm did not go off, and the Palm locked. And it locked again straight after I had reset it. Now I changed the setting back to Auto-Lock When Off and set a timer. And it worked fine. In principle, the problem is the Security Panel bug. I have always used the Auto-Lock after n minutes option, and I recall the Palm locking once in a while (once every number of days or weeks). But for some reason the bug appears a lot more now. I will continue investigating. |
My Palm devices seem more stable after disabling the flakey built-in Palm Auto Lock and switching to pAutoLock (freeware). Give that a try and see if you get the desired lockout with less stability issues. |

The app you mention seems to activate the built-in security Auto-Lock and not replace it. I moved this [lock up problem] topic to another thread ( here ). I am still investigating, but after testing apps in/out of UnCache and Resco Locker and fiddeling with WarpSpeed, the problem has gone for the last two days, and everything is working fine (specially BellTime). I don't have a conclusion yet, but it may have more than one cause. I believe FlushIt! could also have to do with the problem. |

This is a terrific program. But I have one question - when I use World Clock I can choose to use "Reveille" as my alarm sound but it doesn't appear on the list of alarm sounds in BellTime. Is there a way to use a World Clock sound with BellTime? |
Quote:
I think the World Clock has its own integrated sounds and don't use any midi files. But if you install GeekSounds or Emeraldsounds http://www.freewarepalm.com/music/emeraldsounds.shtml you have a lot of midi sounds you can use with BellTime and there is a sound called "M100 Reveille". Jaap |
Emerald Sounds is perfect - all the world clock tones plus a lot more. Thanks! |
Thanks for the BellTime suggestions here at 1src.com Quote:
