Faulty CCD issue and resolution

I don't know if any NZ90 users are aware, but there is apparently a problem with the CCD chip on certain units which causes the PDA to display a faulty image when used in camera mode.

There are more details available regarding the issue and information about obtaining a free repair here

Yep, a lot of posting about it... ;)

D'oh! Please accept my apologies then.

I only came across this because there is a similar problem with JVC camcorders manufactured around the same time (of which I have one). I wonder if they use the same CCD units? :)

And where would that be, if I may ask?
Sony Japan authorized repairs from the 17th Jan 06. it only concerns certain batches of NZ90 and possibly NX80 with faulty CCD chips. Anybody affected?

I've had a look around the NZ forum and wonder if this problem is the faulty CCD problem. I've just picked up this second-hand NZ90's, put am sure camera should take better pictures than this the attached example.

Has anyone come across this type of camera fault before – it seems to be some kind of problem with the white balance or something.

Any advise would be appreciated.

Send it to Sony, I guess. ;)

The CCD realtes to how light is converted into a picture so it is entirely possible that the photo demonstrates a CCD problem. You will have to send it to Sony to be sure though :(

Thanks for view. I was wondering if there's a 1SRC member out there that had already gone through this with Sony and got a repair, and could confirm if they had the same results with the photo.

I think I might give Sony support a call.

My NZ90 is currently at Sony for this repair. I'll let you know how it turns out.

I purchased one of auction here in Japan. The seller said they had the camera replaced by Sony this January. So far it's been working good ... except it's a battery killer of course. I get about 2-3 photos with it before I get very low battery warnings

Well, the unit was returned and works perfectly. Took some pictures and they look fine. The swivel appears a bit loose, but after the trouble I had getting the NZ to Sony and getting it back, I'll fix it myself. Sony was to send me an email with printable UPS shipping labels which I never received. After almost a week and 15 customer service reps later, I dropped the $14 shipping myself. The very day I shipped it, I received a UPS package in the mail with the labels and a box??!! Now you mean to tell me that the 15 people I spoke to couldn't tell me that it was going to be sent snail mail, nor did they check my database to find out that a rep had provided me with the address info just a few days before?! Extremely poor communication within their cust serv. Plus, each time you call, they routinely "refer you to a higher-level tech support" person, who you then have to explain the issue all over again.... I thought at the very least they would ship the unit back to me FedEx or overnight since I paid the original shipping. No such luck. I just pray my other Sony gear holds up so I don't have to go through this crap again

Sony has the worst Support EVER! Have you ever heard of Chris Short? He is much better than Sony, and cheaper.

Rugby10 05-14-2006 01:08 PM

Never heard of him. What is he all about and do you have contact info??

dragonsgames 05-14-2006 01:19 PM

He fixes PDA. He fixed my UX50 and just finished fixing my VZ90.
