I wonder would it make a hearable difference if I lowered the quality of MP3z from 192 to 112? This would save up much storage. I'd be using earbuds. I'll receive my TE2 tomorrow, so I'll try it, though I'd like to hear your opinions too.

There's also a compression technology for MP3 called: MP3pro. This bring the size almost to half, without major loss of quality. The player needs a MP3pro codec to play such files (popular in WinAmp). Now is there a player for palm that supports that functionality?

Thanks

Don't know of any Palm OS players supporting this codec. Try AeroPlayer or Pocket Tunes for a superior listening experience than the preinstalled RealPlayer. You may be able to save space with dBPowerAmp but there is always quality loss when doing this. A larger SD card may be a better investment than all your time modifying these files and purchasing licenses.

I have all of my MP3s encoded as 64K MP3Pro format. They all play fine on the T5 with MMPlayer and Pocket Tunes.

but collumb, the player MUST have the MP3pro codec to play the files well. If not, like in your case, the file plays as just 64 Kbps, and this is a very bad quality.

However, with the cheap little earbuds that I use, plus the fact that I normally have a good bit of background noise when I am playing them, I can't tell. Now, if I was going to have a good set of noise cancelling headphones, and wanted beyond CD quality sound from them, I would be concerned about it.

I would suggest looking at the forums on www.mp3pro.com to see if they list any palm compatible players.

I own a T3 and always use OGG files:
64k data width makes 2 megs per file, and the quality is ok for me(I am not too sensitive). The TE2 sould have enough power to handle the OGG codec, altough I own one now, I didnt yet have time to do anything with it...
