Hello,

I have just purchased a Palm TX and I like it so far, but did not like the choices on the DIA for the "silkscreen" buttons. I'm using SharkBtn to remap them to the applications I want, like the Calculator (I'm just old school Palm :D ). I would really like to be able to change the DIA silkscreen buttons to reflect the applications they really link to.

My question is, is there a way to "skin" the DIA, and if so has anybody created skins with different silkscreen buttons?

Mike

If you tap a silkscreen button with your stylus and hold the button down for a second or two you'll get a pop-up menu with programs! (Found that out after holding one of the silkscreen buttons too long)

So you can easily remap those buttons

Good luck Pascal

Pascal,

Cool! . That is really handy. I have just returned to Palm hardware after owning a Clie for a couple of years and not being inspired by Palm recent offerings, but so far I have been impressed with the TX.

Michael,

You can also use MySkin to completely redesign your DIA skin.

I heartily recommend SkinDIA, & in it's most recent version it is called MySkin.
Dr. Alex Pruss is a great coder & is responsive in a very timely fashion each time I've sought help. I even did some beta work on the app & 1.52 works nicely w/TX.

Keep in mind that if you press & hold on the hardbutton home key - far left - it'll give you a listing of recent apps you called up.

Good luck,

I don't know if you'll need MySkin, but it is a great program if you want to have the DIA look different. There are many options, including the ability to use a picture of whatever you want to be the background of the graffiti area (available with ver. 2.0 and higher)

It also can increase functionality, i.e. you can use a keyboard that have the letters AND numbers at the same time. (If you ever try to enter a contact using the regular keyboard you will know how important this is!)

Ok... I just bought mySkin for my new TX :D Where do you get the keyboard that has numbers and letters at the same time on it? That would be sooooo handy!!

Yes... Atomik Keyboard looks very interesting. I'd love to beta test it :D But where do I get it? I went to your website but couldn't find it anywhere.

I got all the way into ibm.com - I mean registration, the whole nine yards - and I can't find the Palm OS beta - they say something about having "graduated," presumably to a Windows XP tablet that can handle the keyboard. Pffft.

Any old betas just lying around out there on the net somewhere that anyone might know of? I'm a long time fitaly user and this thing has me salivating.

It's a closed beta that I am doing. I am not affiliated with IBM, but I am in correspondence with the IBM researchers who put out the original keyboard (for instance, I made sure with them that I wasn't violating any of their patents) and they have a lot of interest in the project. I'm pretty close to Release Candidate 1. Email arpruss at gmail dot com for a beta.

Hi Alex!

Is this keyboard designed only for a better usage in English? Or the layout is also thought for writing in Spanish? As Spanish is my native language, I would like to know. I am TX user too and if this keyboard saves time when writing, it will be a winner.

Thanks a lot for your time. :)

Regards.

The above mentioned velo skins have the numbers on top of the letters.
Also check out this:

- a keyboard that has the numbers on the right side of the letters.

I use the velo, but the second has an advantage of having more characters available without pressing shift.

It's optimized for English letter frequencies, as well as for the fact that English lacks accented letters, except rarely. Spanish has only one accent in common use, right?, so it might not be too bad for Spanish if one tweaks the accent order. (Currently you tap the Cycle key to get an accent. Tap once, you get an umlaut. Tap twice, you get another accent. Etc. It's trivial to make a version with another accent order so you first get an acute, say.)
