View Full Version : Hot sync error (8009)

I replaced my old Palm with a Clie 4 days ago and the Clies was working fine and only 2 hours ago hot sync worked fine. I always hot sync with the cradle to a pentium 4 pc with winxp with 384 MB and usb. There is only one user for this Clie and the pc, me only, one name.

Now I pressed the hot sync botton, the Clie started hot syning for a second then interrupted , saying "cleaning up, please wait". One sec later , it stopped and displyed an error. I went to the hot sync manager and the log says:

"HotSync operation started 04/06/03 18:56:18
HotSync Error:
An application failed to respond to a
HotSync notification. Please check the Palm Desktop for details. (8009)
HotSync operation complete 04/06/03 18:56:19"

I checked. Another clarification was "an application on the pc failed to respond to confirm hot syc notification".

I restarted the computer. Same problem. I lauched MS IMport and was able to move a program from the Memory stick on the Clie to the pc, meaning the connection was fine.

I went to the Palm desktop and followed the help steps given by the help menu, including the user name, connection to cradle.

Please help.

I have solved my own problem. I reinstalled the sony clie Palm Desktop. Now the clie hot syncs fine.

FYI Sorry late responce.

["Hot Sync Error 8009"]
1. Close HotSync on the taskbar.
2. Close any and all windows, applications or processes running.
3. Open Regedit (go to Start menu, "Run" and type 'regedit'
4. Export the Registry (all, not just a branch) in case you need it as a backup
5. Open HKEY_CURRENT_USER.
6. Open "Software".
7. Find the US Robotics entry and expand it.
8. Select Pilot Desktop folder and delete it.
9. Quit Regedit.
10. Open Run on Start menu, enter "Palm-r" using your correct path to the HotSync.exe. Be sure to add the " -r" after it. This is what will rebuild the Registry entries. After a few moments, you should see the HotSync icon appear in the System Tray on the Taskbar.
11. Before doing anything else, restart your machine
