Hi

I am based in the UK, and have just purchased an NX70V off e-bay. As is the case nowadays I am really keen to get it connected to the web.

Be aware, I am not really technically minded, so treat me gently!

Basically what I want is to be able to detect a wireless hotspot when out and about and connect.

What I think I know already (confirmation required!)...

I believe that with Sony's card, you have to put in an SDID? What is this? How do I find out what they are for specific hotspots? Is this easy, I guess that if I did not know this for a certain hotspot I'd have to ask for it? If I did...would they punch my lights out? I just don't know!?

There is a memory stick available (Heguara??), that does 'track' down hotspots, but it is not always reliable and takes up memory? Could I use a CF memory card to overcome this problem?

Intel do a card that works in the NX70V? I believe that I just need to download the Sony driver and that will work? Please advise on this?

If anyone out there has an NX70V and has found the solution, please come and make my day!!!

Any help greatfully received - thanks in advance!!!

Anthony

To connect using a NX70, you will need the wireless network's SSID. There is really no way to "scan" for a network on the NX. The Hagiwara Wifi MS may or may not have a scanning utility. I am unsure. If you are somewhere that has free or pay wireless, they will usually tell you what the SSID is. If it's someone's network you are "borrowing", I wouldn't ask.

CF cards are another animal. The only ones that are reliable are for storage, not wifi. Sony used a proprietary API when they designed the NX and no CF wifi cards will work except for the WL100 or WL110. I'm sure someone will come on and say "I'm using XYZ CF wifi card just fine". If that is the case, they are doing some major program hacking to get it to work and you don't seem to be the type of person to take the time to figure that out. Stick with what works, the WL100/110.

Just buy some cheap wireless scanner tool that will find the SSID for you and be done with it. That's the easiest way if you don't have a laptop.
