Find the files for Graffiti 1 that work for Treo 650. Copy them to internal memory (not Hotsync) then it works.

You can download them from MyTreo.net after registering on the forum. I don't have the specific link to the download page but you can search for it there. Or, send me an email and I will send them to you.

help help help. i just spent the last two hours getting my new t/x set up (including the part where i had to recreate all my memo categories and re-beam all of them to my new palm)
i have no idea how to do either of the two steps above. but i HATE HATE HATE graffiti 2 and am motivated to get G1 back on this t/x. can someone
a) point me to the right files for the G1/treo 650
b) tell me *exactly* how to copy them to internal memory (i have a pc and windows xp if that's any help.
with my eternal and future and past thanks.

Download the files from here (http://mytreo.net/downloads/details-649.html?Graffiti_1_Files_for_Treo_650).
You may have to register to get to the site.
Copy them to your SD card using a card reader.
Copy them from your SD card to the TX internal memory.
Perform a soft reset.
Walla!
Cheers!

so i finally got it together..the copying the files. i have g1 for lowercase but absolutely NO uppercase letters. When I do the stroke up for a cap, it just puts a dot (indicating it will be an uppercase) and then the dot disappears a few seconds later and no caps. no double stroke up for all caps either. is there a way to get g2 back???:( so sad. so sad.

so i even dl'ed crossover which doesn't work well...it's hit or miss which caps come up as you cross the line and i write a lot on my palm. looks like i have to learn g2. can someone help me figure out where to find the files to put it back the way it was with g2? i'm guessing the method i used just overwrote the original files. sigh. just when i thought i was brave enough to do something amazing. oh well. but help. :( :(

I am sorry it is not working for you. It worked fine for me.
I would try downloading again and doing it all over. I am not sure how to go back without a hard reset. Before a hard reset, I would try a soft rest and see then if that worked, then I would try deleting the files.
Again, apologies for your troubles but it worked just as advertised for me.

thanks for the nice thoughts. ok, so after i almost tear my hear out (not a good look at this point), suddenly my tx soft resets itself for no particular reason and the g1 works perfectly now! i guess it just wanted to do things on it's on schedule. but i'm set now. phew.
i had installed crossover and am thinking it's unnecessary and i can uninstall that.

1) Send a petition to Palm asking for G1 support
2) Use a third party application: Mobile Write
http://www.inkmarksoftware.com/page2.html
I have a Clie NX70V and I can do G1, G2 & handwriting recognition on it
So you will be able to write G1 from the TX

Now come on. We all know Palm would *love* to give us our G1 back. They just can't do it for legal reasons. If you want to petition someone, petition Xerox to lay off a patent that they don't even really care about.

Thanks. This worked perfectly. Graffiti2 really does suck. I tried it for a day and couldn't stand it. The T, X and I (amongst others) takes longer to write, and there also seem to be a delay after writing each letter. I installed the Graffiti1 files and now my T|X has faster input.

The only caveat to any of these patches is that when your T|X launches a larger text box (e.g. in Blazer when you write past the end of the smaller one), your T|X *will* soft reset. Other than that, I've found the patch on the T|X much more usable and responsive than TealScript on my LifeDrive ever was. {Prof. Ezor}

Hello,
I just tried to install the Graffitti 1 files as directed and it caused my TX to completely freeze up. I finally had to do a hard reset and restore all my files. Does anyone know why? I downloaded the files as indicated, and there was a note within the zip file that says do not use with NVFS, but everyone seems to be having success. Is there another set of the files that I should be using instead? Any help would be appreciated.

Hey guys,
Just applied this 'patch' (copied the two files from card to my tx with UniCommander). just after this I did the stylus stroke from bottom to top (graffiti help), the tx reset. And now is in the reset-loop-of-death, warm reset dont help.
That sucks pretty much since I forgot to backup everything before :D
Hard reset is available and probably next step.
This probably has something to do with uncache (the patch was not added to uncache before first reset)?

I'm surprised nobody has suggested TealScript (http://www.tealpoint.com/softscrp.htm) yet. It works great on my TX and gives me G1 as well as crossing over caps capability.

That's exactly what I use on my T5 and seems to work great. Curious though, anyone know of anyone trying this patch on the T5?

I tried TealScript, I liked it but it too, but somehow I got the feeling it made stuff (not writing but generally) more complicated. Anyway textfile which come this G1-thing says:
"included binaries were patched to work with PalmOS 5.4 (TT5, Treo 650).
Igor Nesterov, info@palmoid.com"
So I guess T5 is OK?
I might try this again with more care, but I didnt even care so much to begin with since I use the keyboard app by Pruss, which is great btw =) ... ugh, spending hours with setting up everything etc, do I feel dumb.. :(

also, does anyone know how to get your graffiti strokes to show up when you're writing outside the DIA on the TX? My Zire72 had an option to turn "ink" on or off..... but my TX does not seem to have this....

Well, the TX has it too, it's on the status bar, on the right of the WiFi indicator and on the left of the Landscape/Portrait switch.
If you want to change the ink color, you can do it with KeyColor (http://www.reichertonline.be/keycolor.php) (shameless plug  ).
I'd try TealScript but $35 seems like too much deniros :(

That only allows me to actually write outside of the DIA area.... but you know how when you write in the DIA you can actually see the ink? I'm not able to see teh ink outside the dia, even though i can write anwhere on the screen....

I should have read this FAR more carefully. I just spent a week, reinstalling from scratch everything to see what was causing this problem. I was sure: a hack, something. But no, my beloved Graffiti 1. Sigh. :(
If you have a TX, and install this, just know that your web browser will become unusable. I tried NetFront, as an alternative, but the error messages alone made it intolerable.
Sigh. Time to give TealScript a try.
