Petition to ClieSource!

This thread will act as a petition to all of the ClieSource staff.


In the NX forum (the forum I browse most) everyone complains because ClieSource does not have a mobile friendly page. This goes out to all you staff members. I think I speak for everybody when I say that we need a mobile friendly ClieSource, including the forums. It can be an avantgo chanell, or just a mobile friendly page that people can access from their mobile device!

Good idea, but hard to implement I think. Especially considering that MOST of this site's traffic is Forum based and not article based.
I (personally) think a handheld version of the site would be a waste of their time considering the low article content.

Down at the bottom of the page is a "Show Printable Version" link. This format would be perfect for a PDA. Would there be a way to use the code that generates this page to generate a mobile version of the forums? I have no clue how to maintain a PHP (that is what this is right?) board, so I dont' know if this is even possible. Just an idea I had.

I am able to get the SPUG forums on my Clie using iSilo, and their mobile URL. Maybe someone could ask them the easiest way to convert the forums. :)

I just checked it out on NetFront. The Printable version shows up nicely on an NX. With a litle bit of tweaking, it'd be real nice. I'm just not sure it's really worth the time for the CS staff to do. Just how many people (theoretically) do you think would access it? Then take things like the undead thread into account.......

Reggie already stated in another thread that he would look into this. He has a new Wifi card, so he has a personal interest in this as well. I don't think anyone is doubting that a mobile version would be nice. It's basically up to how easy it will be to implement and when he has time to do so. So, I wouldn't let this thread turn into a big petition; we already agree with you that it would be nice. But if you have suggestions or even better, experience, on how to do this, those would probably be very welcome, and this would probably be a good place for those suggestions.

It could have news and threads you have subscribed to (and perhaps new threads since you last visted) I think that would make it more usefull and cut down on bandwith.
