How long does a battery last approximately on a NX70 compared to the NX60? This would be the list of daily tasks...

1. Listening to MP3s on a two hour bus ride
2. Scheduling and address updates for one hour
3. Misc. use when bored out of mind while on lunch break :)

One thing I use my Clie for is ebooks. I often read for 2-3 hours at night before bed. I also (used to before NX  ) listen to MP3 while reading. And the battery keeps on ticking. One thing I've discovered is that the brightness level has a tremendous impact on battery life. It is set to max by default. I actually like it at the minimum setting for most activity (must be from my old M505 days), especially when I'm reading in bed (don't want to disturb the wife). The battery lasts for many hours that way.

Occasionally, when I want to show off the video or picture capabilities, or in bright sunlight, I'll run the brightness up to max. Then, I'll promptly forget to set it back until later that night, when in the middle of an exciting chapter, it'll crap out (which is why I now have a travel charger by the bed :D ).

Based on what you want to do, you should have no problems with the battery life.  Just playing MP3s, the battery should last about 7 hours.

Just remember to put your Clie in the cradle to recharge when you are not using it during the day.  This is what I do and I've never had any problems with the battery life.

I also put mine in the cradle when I am not useing it.I just got the Wi Fi card and I really use it now, and I havent had a problem with the battery yet.

I'm not sure of how much difference there is between the 60 and 70. I also keep mine in the cradle while at work. I synch it as soon as I get in, and whenever I get ready to leave. I also have a charger that I use while on the road traveling and even on for my vehicle. I haven't really HAD to use that one yet, but it is there, just in case I get to an appointment real early and jam out to some tunes or read a book for an extended time.

Why would there be a difference between the two?

If you put it in the charger every night, then you should be okay.

Given your suggested use, you should have no problems. Just remember the battery will last longer if you keep the following in mind:

1. The Backlight sucks power. I think the NX is unusable without it, but setting it to only about 25% will siginificantly extend the battery life while being quite readable.

2. Use the "Hold" button when playing MP3 files. This will shut off the backlight, screen, and possibly other stuff. Your battery will LOVE you for it. You give up the ability to adjust volume or vanigate tracks, but it's a pretty good compromise.

You can still use the remote to adjust volume and change tracks etc

Does the battery get weaker after a lot of charges like rechargable batteries, i mean, will it last a shorter time, 6 months from now?

Short answer: It won't get short over time.

Slightly longer answer:
The cause of weakening batteries is usually battery "memory" which is not considered an issue for lithium batteries (the loss is generally less than 0.1% over the lifetime fo the battery unlike other types of rechargeables.) Since memory isn't an issue, it is recommended to "top off" the charge whenever you get a chance since the power will dissapate over time like any other form of chemo-electrical storage.

Too lazy to give the long answer ;)

Eventually the battery will get weaker. It does not have the memory effect that Ni-Cads have. There is a lot of power stored in a Lithium battery at a lot less weight. Some users complain of poor battery life, but color high performance Clies, or whatever will soak up the power. It's amazing it does as well as it does. Now if you want to carry around a 10 pound NZ90, that's different...

FWIW, I use my NX70 quite a bit at work to pass the time. I tried an app called Uptime and after a few days, I found I was getting five and a half to six hours use per charge with the backlight on the lowest setting. For me, this gets me through an 8-hour shift, but not some of the 10-hour shifts I pull. For those I bought the battery backup from Sony. 4 AA batteries to charge/run the NX70.

SOny's Manual for the NX (pgs 95-96) lists some (IMHO conservative) avg. battery life specs for various activities.

Your actual mileage may vary :D

Just to give you an idea, i had my clie on at full brightness today for about an hour and 5 min. I did wordprocessing pretty much the whole time, and edited due yesterday assignments as well. After the class i was at 90%. It does stay at 100% longer than other percents though, so with this projected outcome, i would say it could probably last close to 4 hours with brightness set on full (not much game playing, mostly word processing and browsing). I'm very emphatic about this battery life, it's great!

Enjoy.
