OK, was given a tip: you can actually load mp3's via the hotsync install program...
It actually works. Open the install program, change to *.* for the file type, and browse to your MP3!
Bad news, very very slow, or locks up on some long mp3 file names.
But managed to get 7 mp3 into the thing...
Still need a pro reader, but I'd guess this trick also works for
putting a video on the MS PRO (although you might die of old age waiting for the hotsync to complete!)

I do not see the need to do this if you are using an NZ. I am able to HotSync direct to MS MP3s. And the speed is not too bad, about normal USB HotSync speed. All my MP3s will even be automatically installed to MSAudio directory.
I am using MissingSync with PalmDesktop 4.0 transfering to a 512MB MSPro. I have moved MP3s, Midi files, Jpgs and MPEGS this way.

yes.. I was unaware you could do this... old palm user that uas used to only being able to sync prc, pdb, etc.
The loading is really slow though... I'm in seach of a MS PRO read/write unit, but can't find them in stores.
Just came back from Fry's... copied music files from a regular MS to the hard drive of a sony ZR1 (think that's the number), then popped my PRO stick in, and copied them back, much faster!

Dear Sirs,
I have lately some problem to get MP3 on MS card.
I am using OS9 + Missing Sync. To mount 64MB MS card on desktop is absolutely no problem.
But to mount 128MB MS card, the card can not be mounted on desktop.
What would prossibly be the problem ? could someone please give a hint or suggestion
Thank you.

Greg Greg, I tried this before I left on vacation. They transfered to my MS, but didn't show in my audio player. I have the white MS Gate MS 128 mb.

did you download the MagicGate patch on the sony site?
look in the msaudio directory on your MS (using cliefiles)... see if the files are there...

Variable bit rate, basically the recording rate varies to provide max fidelity while taking up less memory. It made it a tad more efficient, but not by much.
The NZ and NX clies don't support it, only a fixed rate such as 96kbps. The higher the bit rate, the better the record quality, but it also takes up more space on the memory stick. It's a compromise with trade offs.
For MP3's 96kbps is a good place to start. Higher bit rates come closer to CD quality.

ps, going to close this thread soon, degenerated into something not helpful and not congruent with the intent of the original thread...

I use X-Drive II as a portable HDD, and it's also a all-in-one reader/writer (CF I/II, SM, SD, MMC, MS, MS Pro ).

I brought a MS Pro USB reader this week. It great. Made by sony, with a soft white (translucent) plastic, comes with 2 usb cables, one short and one long. It supports all the older MS, and It's extremely fast. It does not require a software with Windows XP. This means that you can take it with you anywhere, along with your NZ90 and upload the photos or other misc files to ANY computer you wish. (without any software installation.) It's perfect device for transfer stuff via USB.
