View Full Version : I HATE the on/off slider on the TG50

It's uncomfortably placed, doesn't work readily, locks up in the HOLD position sometimes, often results in my fingers slipping and almost dropping the TG -- in short, it's a real mess for me.

Is there ANY way to remap the on/off function to one of the keys on the face of the TG50 WHERE IT BELONGS?

Much appreciate any help/advise

cheers--

I, too, found it annoying at first. I have gotten used to it, though.

Some thoughts:

One, you could just use the hardkeys to turn it on, and then use one of the many launchers out there to turn it off; I use megalauncher 4, it has a button on the upper right hand that can turn the device off.

You could also map McPhling to the record button and use it to turn the device on, then you'd be able to lauch any program off the bat. I haven't tried this, but I heard it works.

Lastly, you could use the "back" button to turn it off, although you have to press and hold the button, and that irritates me, too.

I agree Red Boats. While I LOVE my TG50 and think that most things about the design and function are really nice, the on/off slider switch is one of my few complaints. Poor design on that aspect.

Sneezy, how do you use the back button to turn the TG50 on/off? I couldn't figure it out...

I hate the slide on/off button in NZ too. Although not so slippy on hand as i get used to NX on/off button. Just need to press it only.

With Zlauncher, you can assign the back button to switch the clie off.

Can't complain too much on the on/off....
there is not much space on the side...

it is hard to make the jog and on/off both place at the same comfortable place while it is taken up.

Maybe if the power button is "slide and lock" style instead the current "slide and return" style, it would feels a lot better

tiwee,
What about to 'on' it?
'Off' function got a lot of ways.

With the flip cover, you do not need to hold the off switch therefore just press one of the hardware key and it will be switch on.

what if you always open the cover just like using a laptop position?

Sorry, I dont get your point. Why would you hold the off switch and left the flip open? Why in the first place would you left the flip open? Don't you think you would accidentally break the flip cover?

I think that if have the use of it then flip it open and press one of the hardware key to switch it on. If you have no use of it, switch it off and close the flip cover. Till today, I still have no trouble flipping it effortlessly.

What might be great would be if lifting the lid would by itself turn the TG50 on, and closing it would turn it off.

Confirmation: Yeah, I've got McPhling's pop-up list of favorite apps mapped to the record button, and it works beautifully, including turning on the device. As for turning it off, I use a "gadget" via ZLauncher. So, I never go near the blasted slider doohickey anymore, unless I truly want it's "hold" feature.

P.S. If you still want to be able to get to the Voice Record app quickly, add it to McPhling's list of faves or situate the app on the first tab of your launcher (<- assuming your first tab is set as the default).

Thanks wilsonch_98. I use the button 1 instead of voice rec button as this button is more fragile than default button.
