after being frustrated and not being able to find a tx in brooklyn (or bestbuy in manhattan or at JR {in warehouse not in store?!} i ordered one with free shipping from JR. so i'm now thinking about a backup program and figure i'll use backupman since everyone speaks so highly of it. in my old soon-to-be-retired t/t i had a dedicated palm backup card. put it in and it prompted me to backup or restore (and i've used that restore more than a few times). i ordered a 1g card for this tx...does this become a dedicated backup card or can i put other things on it too? should i get a smaller card for the backup card and carry two of them?

thanks.

I use BackupBuddyVFS to a regular SD card on my new TX and it works perfectly.

virtually any backup app can do what you are saying on a regular card. I use both backupman and cardbackup. Although backupman is a superior app, it has one problem. In order to make this card work the way you want you need to have your backup app be the startup.prc file on your card. Backup man does not like residing on your card and it will tell you so if you try to move it to your card. On the other hand cardbackup has an option to create the startup.prc file in its prefs. That's why I use both apps.

ok...i got part of what you're saying (not sure about how do deal with the startup.prc file thing but i'll deal with that in a few days when i'm installing.)

?: does the backup card have to be a dedicated backup card (nothing else on it) or can i also store other files (e.g., pictures/jpgs) on it?

You don't need a dedicated backup card. I have one SD card I put almost all my apps, music, and jpegs on. I also use the same card for my backups. The one thing I do suggest is a second smaller card (I use a 128mb) as a dedicated backup, in case you lose your palm w/the card in it. I also backup my card to my computer for the same reason.

bingo! thanks so much for spelling this out. i will take your advice and get a smaller card as my dedicated backup card. i've not had the problem of ever losing my palm <shudder> but have had it crash and burn a few times and was instantly back on track in moments with my backup card. i purchased a 1g card to be delivered with my new tx and i'll just go to bestbuy or such and grab a smaller card for the backup.

many thanks. you *are* supercyberdude!

No prob. :) I did learn from the pain of losing my palm as I was getting out of a car. :( My card was in it. Luckily I had been using SyncWizard to backup my plam and my card. Although the card backup was over a month old, it was better than nothing. I now use backupman to backup every 8 hours and cardbackup to backup once every night. I also have a separate card I put a backup on once a week when I backup my other card to my desktop. I use card export 2 (an excellent app) to drag my whole card onto my desktop. :D

Live and learn. :o

I've heard elsewhere that it does not, but I cannot confirm that personally.

It does now. They just released a new version. I just verified it works fine.

GREAT!!! Card Export II is one of my most used apps. I would hate to lose it. What do you think of your new T|X? I'm seriously considering one. I'm not sure from the reviews I've read how the hard disk is implemented and whether it is a good or bad feature. I did see a post about an app by dmitry, called e2internaldrive, that will give you an internal drive like the T5 on your E2, or TX.

Confirmed the NEW release (2.21) of Card Export II works nicely on the TX.
