Let's ignore the price difference and assume that T5 is readily available and comes with the wifi card.
Would you get the T5 or TX?
T5:
+ faster processor
+ built in flash-drive
+ BT supports sending MMS and remote dialing to BT enabled phone
- no free card slot when wifi card is used
T|X
+ built-in Wifi, free card slot for more RAM/accessories
+ better battery life? (that still needs to be seen)
+ newer product (with bugs worked out?)
+ 6.6g lighter in weight
- BT doesn't do MMS (as per Palm's comparison chart)
- BT doesn't do remote dialing (as reported by users in another thread)
Either way I think I'm prepared to finally leave my T665C behind and make the upgrade.

I had the T5 with the Wi-Fi card, but upgraded last week to a TX. Here's a brief list of +/- I've noticed so far:
+ Wi-Fi implementation is much better (wireless hotsync setup is a walk in the park, automatic connect, no SD card that protrudes from the Palm)
+ Wi-Fi encryption support WPA-PSK (the latest driver package 1.2 for the SD card does not)
+ Wi-Fi is faster (I measured ~50% faster downloads/surfing speeds compared to the external card)
- Large Excel files with many worksheets open slower with the TX than with the T5
- No drive mode (I really used this feature a lot, but it can be corrected with Card Export II, whereas the external Wi-Fi card cannot).
- No home button/icon in the status (I experienced some issue with SharkTXFix and the revised resources to get the home button back).
Well, for my the upgrade decision was easy, since my wife wanted a large screen PDA (=T5) and hence I need a replacement (=TX) :D Addiotionally I'm a heavy WiFi user.
Cheers.

What good is BT is you can't use it? I find these limitations pretty disappointing. I have really been watching the TX and this is the probably the biggest dissapointment that I've seen. Hopefully someone will come out with a patch to fix these issues.

Yeah that's got me stumped too. I was hoping to use those two features. Mayeb a SharkFix will come out for this? :) I'm rather disappointed that the BT implementation is limited.
I use Bluetooth for SMS (not MMS), Salling Clicker, sending/receiving files, and hotsyncing with my Mac if I want to. I have never used Bluetooth for remote dialing and MMS so I don't find removing those capabilites as limitations.

BlueTooth is becoming more mainstream. I use it to hotsync to both of my computers. It is a real snap.

Perhaps i am not familiar with Bluetooth Remote dialing!?!? But ever palm since my Tungsten T2 (which includes the T2, T3, LifeDrive and now T|X) has been able to remote dial to my Nokia 6620 Bluetooth enabled Cell phone. In Contacts i can select the person i want to call, choose "dial" and it sends the number to my phone and activates the call. Is this not what you are talking about? As far as MMS goes, i have never seen any of the palms listed above do this successfully! SMS is no problem, but MMS is not possible.

My TX BT dials to my Razr V3 perfectly... and much more quickly than my LifeDrive.
SMS works perfectly too. That's the point of BT in the TX.

Pardon my ignorance - being new to wi-fi and the PDA.
What is the difference between SMS and MMS?
Does SMS allow me to send to people on MSN Messenger? If so, is there somewhere that I can find on how to implement this?

Joel: I'm most interested in the Salling Clicker - just looked up the software and this looks pretty awesome. Do you have any experience using this with PowerPoint? I'm trying to get a sense of ways that I could use this for my powerpoint presentations. Is it difficult to implement?

OK, so the report about remote dialing not working is false? Or maybe it just doesn't work the guy's Motorola?
The MMS thing... I got that from the Palm's website, in the model comparison chart.

Short-Messaging-Service is for text messages only, whereas Multimedia-Messaging-Service lets you add pictures, animations (crappy ones) and sounds to your text messages.
As far as I know, there's no app out there that lets you send messages between SMS apps and MSN or other IM programs.
Hope this helps.

Remote (BT) dialing works fine for me also. The Web connection and Versamail over BT works, My GPS works, What more do you need in a PDA Bluetooth????

I'm with you. All you need bluetooth for is GPS and maybe a hotsync. Bluetooth GPS is awesome on the palm.

I don't own the T|X (yet) but I have been testing the one at my local CompUSA to see if it will run everything that my T5 will. I agree the WiFi on the T|X is much faster than the T5 with WiFi card.
Also the T5 will not allow downloads with Web Blazer that are larger than 2 megs. I downloaded a 40 meg file from my home PC to my SD card using the Avvenu software :) Also video plays just as smoothly as it does on the T5.

Well I don't have a T|X yet. But I have been testing the one at my local CompUSA store to make sure it works with everything that my T5 has.
I agree the T|X wiFi is much, much faster than the T5 with WiFi card. Also the T5 has a 2 meg download limit when trying to download files from the internet.
I downloaded a 40 meg MP3 file from my home PC using the Avvenu software. It was fast and could even be installed to the T|X ram.

Well, I guess the wifi issue has sold me on the T|X.

I guess the built-in Wifi is the main selling point of the T|X... it made me get one!

Yeah I agree. I was looking at the E2 and the T5 up till a month ago when I got word of this new T|X.
If I had wanted to outift the E2 or T5 with Wifi, I would have spent another $100. So even though the TX wasn't perfect, it seemed like a better value at $299. I've been surprised how often I check for a signal out of curiousity. :)
My perfect T|X would have a keyboard like my old Clie. I dislike the Treo, so that's not a option for me. :(

Video can not be the same, because TX has slower cpu, that means that T5 can play (without framedrops) video with higher bitrate.
about T5 or TX.. well, if u are not heavy video user or u dont work with big Excel file i would defenetly go for TX, but if u work with many big office documents, i would buy T5, or buy TX and use overclock software (dunno if there are such software for TX)

That does, of course, assume the video chip, display, etc are all the same hardware, and that the cpu itself hasn't been changed at all (like adding display driver stuff in hardware). I don't know if any of this has been validated, but not everything is based off the raw cpu speed. It is possible for a slower cpu to display faster.

well, that's truth, but still MHz's are very important (for this task), and i am pretty sure that TX does not have any additional hardware or new versions of hardware in comparisson to T5 or LD.
I have no framedrops in TCPMP with a pocketDVD-made Video in 360*468 and highest bitrate on my T|X ... and I had on my Tungsten T3... mmh, maybe there is something more in the core...

pretty interesting.. can u say what is bitrate of the movie? (i never saw pockeDVD so i dunno what "highest bitrate" means).
actualy u can watch on T3 (or T5) movies with 1000kb stream. (with resoution about screen size)

Hi ... I use Salling Clicker practically everyday in my classes. Together with PowerPoint or with Apple's Keynote -- it just works very well. I started using Sallking Clicker since about 2 or 3 versions ago -- when it was just a simple "clicker." Now, you can use your Palm handheld computer to navigate the Mac's Decouments folder to look for the file you need to present. I haven't had a problem with it.
If you have modest-size to smaller size PowerPoint presentations, you can also look into using the Pitch Duo device. A little bit involved in the setup -- but at least you can present wirelessly via BT from the Palm handheld -- skipping a computer altogether.
:)

I finally bought a T|X and so far I'm loving it. I few nagging things like Graffiti2 and no home button, but searching 1src, you can already see there are fixes for this. The Graffiti1 one upgrade is a must!
Oh and yes, BT remote dialing on both my SonyEricsson Z600 and a Motorola V551. Wifi works great like everybody else said.

I'm actually looking for VOIP for my TX.
Anyone has good suggestion for this?
How to overcome the lack of Microphone on TX?
A pitty Skype is not available for Palm...

@ hiros. No. No idea.

HIROS,
No SKYPE and no mic. Sorry bud.

You're only hope is if some company decided to sell software and bluetooth headset for voip. Even then I dont know how well it would function.
