I have a US TH55 (unfortunately without BT). I would like to connect to the internet using my cell phone as a modem via infrared. Has anyone done this before? Also what cell phone manufacturer and model are you using? I have done a search and have seen people do this through the use of cell phone to PDA cables. Please help.

If your phone does have bluetooth, you can get a PEGA-MSB1 and get internet :D

I use a cable from www.gomadic.com to connect my TH55 to my LG VX4500 cell phone.

Wow, I did not know they sell a bluetooth memory stick! I couldn't believe how much they cost though ($299). Ouch! Is there a cheaper place to purchase it from? For that price, I might as well sell my US TH55 and upgrade to a EU TH55. That way I would still have a slot for my 1GB MS.

I saw the threads on connecting your TH55 to a cell phone via cable purchased at Gomadic or Supplynet, but I was wondering if there was another way (Infrared). If it's not possible, then I will either upgrade to a Palm Treo 650 or enable TWeb (T-Mobile) on my Motorola V300 which allows me to access the web, email, online games, etc. on the phone.

What are you guys' thoughts? Just curious.

$300! I got mine for $100. Search places like eBay, $300 is a rip-off :D

I was under the impression that the bluetooth memory stick will not work on the TH55, it also has the added problem that the bluetooth mem stick is longer, therefore you won't be able to close the TH55's memstick door.

Correct, Sony has not released drivers for that configuration (TH55 Wifionly + PEGA-MSB1) - and probably never will.

Selling the old TH55 and getting a TH55/E (Wifi+Bluetooth) is perhaps a better option -- or look into a newer palmOne devices.

Man, I love my TH55 ... I just wish that Sony made a Smartphone of their own. Bummer! Oh well, looks like I will be leaning more toward the Palm Treo 650 then .... Thanks everyone

Offcourse you can connect your lovely TH55 to internet using IR. First, you must have a cell phone with GPRS Modem and IR port (i've a Nokia 6230 and it works flawless). Second, make sure your cell phone is ready to rx/tx via IR.

Now, you must go to preferences-> connection, and create a new connection (call it Cell Phone or something like that). In "Connect to" select "Modem", in "Via" select "Infrared", in "Dialing" select "TouchTone" and thats all. Now, go to network and in "Service" select "Windows RAS", in username, put anything, password equal, in connection select the connection that you created before and ( this is the important part), in "Phone" put *99#; align your phone with the clie and tap Connect. The phone must show some confirmation about GPRS activity/connection, and finally, the palm must get connected.

It works for me with a several models of palms (even a Palm III) and i think it must work for you. The ugly part of this for me is that here in Colombia, each MB of GPRS traffic costs about US$ 6 :( , and my pocket cant stand it.

Good luck, i hope it helps. Sorry about my english.
