Thanks to Jimmie Geddes who asked me to write a TX utility to add back the Home button into the Status Bar. SharkTXfix makes tapping the Find button act as Home, and swiping up from the Find button act as Find.

V1.1 now supports Landscape as well!

if the lack of a home SB button bothers you, it might be worth a shot!

DOWNLOAD IT NOW! (http://www.ludustech.com/download.php?file=http://www.ludustech.com/files/SharkTXfix.zip)

I wonder why Palm always likes to leave a glitch or two in their new products, maybe just for Tyler to fix it? :D
Although I don't own any of the recent Palms, a glitch fixer sure deserves some respect.
Way to go, man!

It makes you wonder? Home is the most used soft button on my TH, and the search function is practically never used. Why would they do that?

Jimmie Geddes

Palm should send Tyler "free" devices so he can "fix" them, he should also be paid:) Don't worry Palm is watching him:) I mean look at how many fixes he's created. Sharkcache saved the LifeDrive. Palm Tech support acutally told me to download it when I called them when I had a lifedrive, lol. He's already updated SharkTXfix in less than 12 hours of it being out:)

Jimmie Geddes

Brad as to why Palm did it; the same reason a dog licks himself, they can. Didn't mean to get too graphic. Palm just got rid of it to make room for the wifi icon, guess they didn't think we'd want it back. We have, and Tyler has given it to us.

DOWNLOAD NOW!! (http://www.ludustech.com/download.php?file=http://www.ludustech.com/files/SharkTXfix.zip)I hate to report that 1.2 failed to sync because of a read only error. I had MySkin 1.52 with Grayhide and IconFix loaded. After the first failure, I used MySkin to load the original status bar and tried syncing again. It also failed with the same error. So I'm back to 1.1 which workes nicely with MySkin, Grayhide and IconFix.

OK. Taking a cue from this, I used SmbMate to transfer the file over to my TX (or tried to).

First, I get:
File FixedStatusBarResources.pdc already existrs in RAM as database [StatusBarResources]. Overwrite?

I answer "Yes".

Then I get a:

Just to let you know, the two files are completely separate. If one fails, it means nothing about the other. If the find dialogue comes up, then you may not have initialized the TXFix program. If the house is missing, there was a problem installing the StatusBarResource file.

I dont believe SharkSwipe is device limited. It uses fairly standard code, so it should run on a TX. Nevertheless, Tyler doesnt have a TX, and the simulator cannot run ARM code, so you will be trying it at your own risk until Tyler gets someone to test it for him.

Jimmie Geddes

hi! okay, to sum up:

1) you must copy the StatusBarResource from a card or beam/bt it over.

2) the programs are independent. Enable SharkTXfix and install the StatusBarResource for best effect.

3) unfortunately no way to make it stick after hard reset.

i'm very happy to hear this tool exist~
it make my future pretty TX become great~ ^^

for me, both find and home is important~
the find is very useful, yet, home is more useful~

so i am very happy to hear the find function could be called by a strok~

but i wonder, in landscape mode, i should draw a line from where to where, while in protrait mode is from home to top.

and very happy to hear it work in landscape mode too~

and i think, if wanna make it alive after hard reset.

make a "palm side" intaller and let us put it in a SD card

while we simple click on the installer in SD card, it will automatical install the program to palm without the need to use computer.

I don't know what happened, but I just run into a major problem with this fix/revised resources, after it worked flawlessly for a few hours. :(

Suddenly the TX reseted everytime I pressed the home button (no matter which program was assigned to). Even when I disabbled SharkTXFix and restored the old resource file (I kept a copy of the original version). :(

After about 20 soft resets, and one warm reset I finally did a hard reset. Fortunately I have BackupBuddy VFS Pro and did a complete restore - except SharkTXFix and the revised resources. I went through just fine (so BackupBuddy VFS is working on the TX :)) and I don't have resets any longer. So I for my part will stay away from this fix for a while - although it is very much possible that the problem is very specific to my TX only.

Cheers.

You cant just restore the old resource file. It never actually disappears, it is in ROM. What you need to do with the resource file is change its version number to 3, reset your device (soft reset), and then delete the file. This may not solve your problems though, you may have to get some help from Tyler.

I finally go the new status bar to work. I put it in MySkins folder and merged the status bar portion. Worked fine.

I couldn't get a copy to work from the SD card into RAM for some reason. I am using Resco Explorer to do the copy, I wonder if that had anything to do with it.

Hi Sharkk717,

Great stuff! Can I make a suggestion? I have installed SharkTXfix and is working fine. However, you may want to post a "how to install" proceedure to your site so people can do the correct installation! After playing with the program, I had to search several forums to get the correct process. Firstly, you can not hotsync both. The program yes to the RAM, status bar to the card. Then copy status bar to RAM. The home icon does not apprea on the status bar until you soft reset your TX. Keep up the good work.

I had installed some 3rd party softwares and backup apps into my TX: and everytime I launch a backup the TX goes in a

soft reset continuosly; the restore from hotsync doesent'work.
I've tried many backup applications (BBVFS, RescoBackup, Backupman) and everytime I launch a backup software I had the "soft-reset loop".

After tree times of "hard-reset+reinstall everything" procedure I've reinstalled all 3party software without SharkTXfix
now everything goes right: I've scheduled a daily backup with Backupman, and use the default Palm launcher with the default hard button.

Do you have a 3rd party Launcher, like LauncherX by chance? I had a similar problem, when trying to go to the home button or home hard button (which was mapped to LauncherX) it would reset. Here's a couple things to try:

-When your palm resets, disable extensions (hold down the UP keypad while booting)
- It'll start up in the prefs app, don't hit the home button. Eject your SD card and then stick it back in, this should take you to the Palm Applications launcher
- At this point either just delete your 3rd party launcher or launch some program like Filez to delete just the 3rd party Launcher's prefs.

Also, make sure you have all the WiFi PRCs!! If your restore from Backupbuddy didn't restore all of these you WILL go into a continuous reboot loop. You need to restore these WiFi files using Filez or McFile or something.

I "think" that this problem is caused by something forcing an invalid screen bit depth on LauncherX (for me anyway) and I have stopped this from happening anymore by installing Colorize and forcing 256 colors in LauncherX and Applications. No more resets. This may be your problem, but may as well be the missing WiFi PRC's.

I then read this forum to find out the best way was threw a sd card. I installed that way and thats when all the trouble began. I will try later tonight after I do a backup on my palm this time and a BB backup also.

Hey Snark, Thanks for this. :) This was on my list of issues for the TX. Why dont they tell a person these things...

...like I found out if you press and hold the HOME key, it brings up a recent app lists, very helpful.

did I miss a pdf manual some place...
thanks again

I agree. This is VERY helpful! Can't believe they don't mention it ANYWHERE! I went through the Palm Help last night (hey, I was bored) and didn't come across this tip!

I hated having mail as one of the silk screened buttons. I almost never use my Palm TX for checking mail. How I can assign a much more useful app (or Find) to that postion on the silkscreen.

Thanks!

Tap and hold the "offending" icon and a list of apps will come up. Just select the app you want assigned in that spot.

i think~
it would be better if all of us sending E-mail to palm requesting the return of the home botton (and maintaining the find button... or trigger find as sharkTXfix does.) in the next (if any) rom update of TX.

I would be much more stable if it is modified by palm inc. rather than we "hack" the status bar for the return of "home" button.

I agree with ya! It's defnitely a simple job for palm, they should correct this stupid mistake of removing the home button.

mySkin 1.70 has just been released. You can get it from zlthemes.com/Programs.php . It's a full-featured skin manager that includes a home button feature that is designed to look as close as I could make it to how it works on the T5. The home button works with any custom skin (you may need to reload the skin). mySkin is shareware, but the home button feature will (I hope) continue to work even if the mySkin trial expires.

Does this mean I don't need to have SharkTXFix installed anymore or does this just provide the button?

I am a registered MySkin user so if it can handle the task I can remove SharkTXFix.

I have this program and it is fantastic. I thought of buying it before it had the "Home Icon in TX statusbar" option and now its even better with this feature. You don't need SharkTXfix with this program because it works even better than SharkTXfix (sorry Sharky). If you tap and hold on the Home Icon you get a "Find" option also. Great work Alex.

Pretty simple thing to do. Disable SharkTXFix. HotSync MySkin 1.71 on top of the old version. Enable the TX Fix in MySkin. I had to reload GrayHide to get the Home Icon to display the GrayHide version of the Home button. But that was all it took except to delete SharkTXFix. The MySkin Home button looks and acts like it should.:D

Shameless plug...

But very justified!

If you have a TX, and you want to skin the VG and SB, then get MySkin. As he says, he has also fixed the home button problem.

Well, this is getting "interesting"...... loaded the latest MySkin 1.71 and deleted SharkTXFix. Then I started having HotSync problems..... like my TX wouldn't..... deleted MySkin and loaded SharkTXFix (1.1 I think it was; the simple one without the icon change) Went to Ludus Technologies download page and downloaded the latest SharkTXFix 1.2. Opened the zip file to give it a try and all I found was a text file that said:

"Hello! Thank you for your interest in SharkTXfix. We are currently addressing stability problems but in the mean time check out these excellent alternatives:
-Alex Pruss's mySkin Program (Total DIA Skinning): http://www.palmgear.com/?xyz=72007
-TX|home by Mobile-Stream: http://www.mobile-stream.com/demos/txhomebtn.zip"

MySkin isn't stable either......

For whatever it's worth...... SrarkTXFix 1.1 and MySkin 1.6 seem to work okay..... it appears that getting the *#@$%&^** "home" icon from either is the problem.....

When I removed TXShark in favor of mySkin, I could not do any slide with Fitaly. TXShark must have left something deep in the OS. After a clean install with everything but TxShark, my TX is very stable indeed. ptoolset, myskin, Fitaly + 2MB worth of Japanese language extention in RAM all coexst with harmony

SharkTXFix doesn't leave anything deep in the system. But you have to be sure to delete the skin bar if you installed that.

is still SharkTXfix under review? Are you planning to release an updated version? What are the stability issues you've come accross? Shall I uninstall it?

The "homenogo" I believe is part of the mobile stream App you also get "homewithfind".

[Uninstall]
To uninstall, use FileZ, change the database type 'aexo' to 'aex1',
then soft reset and delete the database (the device might crash at
this step - this is normal) then soft reset again.

Hope this helps

hey shark... thanks so much for the fix, it's been a lifesaver. i don't want to sound too greedy, but is there a way you could make a (hopefully quick/easy) fix to replace the full screen graffiti button with the percentage-number of battery life left?

thanks for an excellent fix though :D. that's how i found these forums.

As a natural reaction from previous Clie, I'd often find myself tapping on the FIND on the statusbar as if it was HOME

Hi everybody,
as a new TX user, after the dead of my beloved Clie, I am trying, of course , to get back to my old HMI....

I feel very interesting in SharkTXfix.....Thank you to its authors.

However, I would also like to customize my ALARM launcher in the SB.....Is it possible? as easy as the search button? can we have part of source code or free/shareware of it? Does it already exist...ad I just don't now how to use "search" feature (...hum, on my palm it is now home....so on my laptop??? ;o)

Many thanks
Gilles

I'm almost certain the update never came. But go here (http://www.mobile-stream.com/) and scroll to the bottom of the page. Click the link on the right side of the page, and download the file. It does what you are looking for.

I had SharkTXFix 1.1 kicking around on my hard drive and installed it on my Palm, but this version didn't come with FixedStatusBar.prc, and 1.2 doesn't seem to be available anymore. Can anyone hook me up with just FixedStatusBar.prc, assuming it works with 1.1?

It was buggy so he took it down... There are alternatives though
:D

HomeWithFind (http://www.mobile-stream.com/demos/txhmbtn.zip) and myKbd (http://www.palmgear.com/index.cfm?fuseaction=software.showsoftware&prodid=119441&PartnerREF=&siteid=1)

Even though myKbd is shareware the Home button fix stays after the trial expiration. This is the option I personally use (although I did buy the app and love it)

Mods, this should be "unstickied". This product isn't available anymore, and having this here points people in the wrong direction (especially non members who will not ask questions). You should sticky myKbd/mySkin/HomeWithFind.

I used it for a month, and although I got crashes, it didn't seem like I had any less than before I installed it. But I do recommend using the same function in myKbd/mySkin as this will work after the trial has expired, also it will let you set up hard key macros, and totally change the look of your status bar. So if I had to choose one it would be mySkin/myKbd (also both these programs are made by a VERY good developer).

I would Like to say that SharkTXfix is still out on the web if, because I found it using my TX.

Ok. I deleted sharkTXfix manually by clicking on it in Zlauncher and sending it to the trash bin for deletion.

I deleted the program and did a soft reset. The home icon is still there, but the find function is functioning correctly.

In my zlauncher file manager I have

1.temp install data temp 6k, 2recs (around the time I installed)

2.statusbarResourses_enUS (its in Black text whatever that means)

3.statusRescourses (its in blue text)

4.StatusbarResourses (its in blue text)

The file I think I need to delete has the name:fixedstatusbarresources.prc

When I first got my TX last month and playing with it, while the screen had appeared to lock up during either a WiFi or BT search I was able to get to a app/screen that allowed me to change the Soft Buttons and their matching icons. I'll play again and see if I can gather the actual steps again.
